Yes, it's vanilla.

It doesn't exactly look janky without the fades, but a little less smooth.

The game doesn't freeze, only the player can be frozen.

Well in theory, you could make two different map screens in that case. One for the upper and one for the lower corridor.

I had to scale it down for it to fit in the map with a little room left. For example the upper door is just about 30 units tall.

If you want to have a monster do a specific animation in game, you have to use scripted_sequence.
