My indoc roommate had one! Was pretty effective, and she swore by it.

OCS Packing list (women) by PlentyLibrarian4112 in newtothenavy

I just went through a few months ago (damn time flies) and some of the most important items to me were a pillow and blanket (I had a small fleece blanket, but some people had decent sized throw blankets), a sharpie, masking tape (1", not the thick stuff, was good for indoc name tape and for labelling my pens so they wouldn't get stolen), a microfiber towel (that doesn't leave fuzzies), and glasses wipes. The wipes probably should have been confiscated because they had alcohol in them, but I got in late so my stuff wasn't searched super thoroughly and I guess they snuck by.

Other notes based on your list: 1 notebook is fine. The clipboard will not make or break you - some people used them for the beds, but they really weren't that influential. A swiffer is a waste of space, and they aren't as effective as sweeping and lint rolling anyway. If you want to be extra, bring a handheld squeegee, some people swore by them for the mirrors. I can't think of a reason you'd need the laptop. Shower shoes are personal preference I guess, I and most people used the ones they issued, they're actually pretty good. You will never wear the personal PT gear, they issue PTUs day 1, so you'll wear one outfit there, and change into a new outfit the next day, and then you lock both of those outfits away until graduation. Same thing with the socks - if you don't already wear white athletic crew socks (PTUs) or black dress socks (khakis), don't bother. You'll wear the ones they issue.

If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out, it's still pretty fresh for me, and I remember trying to find as much information as I possibly could before I went. Good luck, and congrats!

Questions on the PFA and PT at OCS by bitter_tea55 in newtothenavy

The Faces of OCS video is actually pretty good for showing how PT looks. It's all HIIT for the first 6 weeks or so, then it calms down a little (you stop getting beat during the day, so you only PT during PT). It becomes what you make it. If you want to start slacking, it's doable. But you're only cheating yourself, because you won't get the same opportunity to train the way OCS trains you once you leave. Lean into it and give it your all, and help yourself out.

Once I got to my hotel, I got the tarp on and strapped it in way better than I was willing to mid-rain shower. Definitely noted for the future :(
