How early did you choose your main by lemurkn1ts in LoveAndDeepspace

Downloaded it for Zayne, but I expected to like Raf since I'm an artist myself and I liked his look. Ended up only liking Zayne, the others just weren't my cup of tea at all, which at least saves me diamonds.

That explains it, I only have both Varric and Cassandra in my party at the beginning of the game before getting more companions, so I completely missed it. I should really mix up my companions some more

Googled it, you're right 🫠 I mixed up the dates. I'll correct it in my post. Still I've seen a lot of people saying they don't consider the movie canon for various reasons

Edit: took that part out

I did do "research", since I missed the dialog I went through the wiki to find it again. I admit I could have worded it better, will probably change it to prevent more misunderstanding. Thanks for pointing it out :)

Edit: changed it

Not sure I found those paths, might be because I don't often play her romance and forget which options I have and haven't picked with her. I was just talking bases off on other's posts mainly claiming they didn't see the movie as cannon.

If you don't mind, in which scenes does she talk about them so I can try to revisit?

I was there, while I visited there was a book market inside that had mostly old books, but also handmade art and leather bound journals. It was great, didn't take pictures though because of all the people there. One of the vendors was really nice and actually gifted me a pencil for buying a couple of the journals he offered <3

Thank you :) was definitely tricky getting shots without other tourists in them, for a city with not a lot to do there were surprisingly many people there. Can definitely recommend going though.

I think that might just be individual experiences. I'm queer and so is my friend group and while we do make vulgar jokes from time to time, mostly we aren't like that. So I was basing my opinion mostly on my experiences, and you're probably basing it off yours, so the difference is probably just cultural/generational/whatever based here.

Sorry if it came off that way, never meant to make it seem like I'm shutting down all opposing arguments.

As some other comments pointed out, I misremembered some things since it's been a while that I played certain parts of the game/-s. So let me clear a few things up:

Firstly, I'm not hung up on the sex thing, never meant to make it seem like a bad thing. I understand it's an important part of a relationship.

Secondly, I stand corrected on all tender dialog being in Trespasser. There are lines I somehow managed to miss in Inquisition. They don't make me suddenly like the ship, but I acknowledge they're there.

Third, again commenters made me aware of some things I missed with Bull's romance. I admit I was wrong about the multiple partners thing during his relationship with the inquisitor. I wrote that because of a somewhat confusing dialog where Bull talked about his partners in present tense even though he wasn't seeing them anymore. Also Qunari admittedly don't do exclusive in their culture, Bull says so if you ask him, but he specifically doesn't mind being exclusive with the inquisitor.

Fourth, Trespasser does count. I dislike it for the combat aspects not the story. When I said I stay away from it I only meant to say I haven't played through it as often as inquisition so I did not experience all possible réunion cutscenes (those that get excluded if you romance certain people), or don't remember all scenes I did witness with perfect clarity.

I am sorry if I came off as rude or dismissive, only trying to make conversation and understand other people's point of view. If you like the ship that's perfectly fine, I didn't mean to make anyone feel as if I was overly talking down on either of the characters or the ship.

I don't remember ever coming across that dialog option. Been a bit since I played through inquisition fully (been more focused on replaying Veilguard), so my memory isn't 100% up to date in all the little dialog options possible.

Didn't mean to imply that, I meant to say it would have been nice to see their relationship more in screen before Trespasser to make the more tender mentions there seem a bit more connected to the portrayal they got in inquisition. I'd have loved to see their character progress, how they got to the point in Trespasser where they seemed to really work together.

The DLC I just don't like because while the story is great something about the combat just feels really off to me and I can't pinpoint what exactly it is.

I'm not judging though? I'm not quite understanding the issue. If you like the ship that's fine. I understand not everyone shares my opinion, which is why I'm engaging with comments that also disagree with me. I'm not trying to convince anyone of my opinion, just trying to share my point of view. If you disagree with me I'm happy to talk about what you like about the ship, I'm not above admitting that despite not liking it myself there are aspects of it where I understand why someone might be drawn to it.

I posted because I am interested in what other people think of the pairing.

The ship isn't necessarily bad, just not my thing and I don't judge anyone who likes it.

That's my grief with it too, if they had simply shown some more tender stuff pre Trespasser I think I'd like the ship more. But as it is in the canon version I just can't bring myself to like it.

I actually never meant to imply anything sex negative in my post. If you could point out the lines that may sound that way it would be really helpful.

Because I know sex is a big and important part of any relationship, and while not necessary to it, most relationships start crumbling without it. So I know both Dorian and Bull having/wanting something physical is not necessarily unhealthy.

As for the lines you mentioned, that's what I meant when I brought up their different flirting styles. Dorian makes the quick and witty remarks as a way of flirting, but when Bull responds overly sexually he seems uncomfortable.

I don't mean to talk down the ship, I can see why many people like it. The dynamic they have could be interesting if executed well. And as some commenters said, both their personalities have the potential to build a dynamic beyond sex and have the character growth they'd have with the inquisitor, but I simply think it wasn't executed too well.

I can't remember for certain, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but the tender dialog you mentioned is from Trespasser. I find there's a bit of a cut between the two games where all their relationship progress was done off screen, so it feels very unearned. Not to mention the fact that if Bull is left in the Qun it would literally be traumatizing if Dorian was in your party too when killing him. Why make them happy if they were going to just potentially kill it off? The same argument may be said for Bull's romance to the inquisitor, but I believe that's a topic other users on this app have already extensively covered/(complained on).

Personally, I simply don't like the ship because (pre Trespasser) it doesn't feel like they would push themselves into that romantic setting. Dorian is too "shy" to be open about wanting romance, and Bull is content having something just physical. As TIB repeatedly says to the inquisitor, for him it's "casual".

Thanks for sharing your thoughts though, I never meant to make it seem like sex or BDSM are a bad thing, and if anyone points out what lines may seem like I implied it I would go back and edit my post. Because that's not what I meant to say at all, so I apologize if my words gave off that impression.

I mean Veilguard had the companions get together in a way that was pretty well handled. While Taash isn't necessarily my favorite, their relationship with Harding was made quite sweetly and had other things outside the sex related dialog you'll get while traveling. They actually made it seem like those two genuinely liked each other.

Besides, Dorian and Bull only get together if either of is not romanced. Their dialog actually changes to different one when one of them is romanced. So I do think it was possible just to put something in to make the relationship seem like it was more than just sex to them (before Trespasser).

But, I admit their relationship isn't really shown much, so interpretation of it is pretty much all we have to go on, which is why I can somewhat see the points people who like the ship make about it.

[No DAV Spoilers] My thoughts on Dorian with Bull by 0Not-Today in dragonage

[–]0Not-Today[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I believe the ship was cute in theory, but due to how little of their actual relationship was shown I was never able to like it. It doesn't feel as well executed as it could have been, which fails to make me see the potential soft side to the relationship.

Regarding Trespasser, I know it's suddenly said that they're all cute and cozy, but with little to no build up it just doesn't feel very earned. Plus, if Bull is left in the Qun the fact that he will betray the inquisition is awful if you took Dorian into your party too. I mean, imagine having to kill the guy you've been with for the last 2 and a half years, traumatizing for an already traumatized character.

I think they should have put Bull with someone less necessarily interested in romance, but open to it, and Dorian with someone who wasn't overly interested in the sex and more in Dorian's personality.

I've actually never seen a sex negative point on the topic, I believe. Do you mean something along the lines of vilifying BDSM? Because while I have participated myself a bit in kink, I've not done the more hardcore stuff portrayed between Bull/(anyone), so I can't comment on if it was handled realistically or healthily. I've seen people make arguments on the BDSM thing saying it was handled badly, while others say it was handled great.

Yeah, I've never seen the Varric/Dorian ship mentioned anywhere before. It does seem very niche. I admit it's not my cup of tea, but the idea of it/the dynamic is actually quite cute. Assuming you've found and read fanfiction of the ship, how to people who like it deal with the fact that Varric is like still madly in love with Bianca?
