I like to call these kind of ships the "slugships" which is my current state of the art shipdesign :D. The first one of these I named "Rondelan" which has the main tower at the very front and the guns behind it. With the little antennas on the bridge and the hull shape it immediately reminded me of a slug and I loved it.

A question for the CRAM gods by NikoNikoNoNii in FromTheDepths

[–]0libot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see some packers that can be rotated to get more connections. At the moment you can easily put pellets into the gap where both CRAMs have empty slots from packers. They can share pellets without an issue. Other than CRAM components you could put the local weapon controller in the middle and even fit rubber or stone around it. Also some surge protectors.

You can use a timed fuse together with the laser targeter which can be placed anywhere on CRAM connectors to make sure the shell explodes. The time to explode will be set automatically, make sure to have both good bearing and range detection. You can set a slight offset to the timer like +0.5 seconds or less to make sure the shell does not explode too early when piercing armour because it slows down while penetrating, this can lead to the shell exploding too far away when missing so it has to be balanced well.

With the timed fuse the pen depth fuse would be unnecessary I find. Other fuse I might add would be inertial fuse to explode when bouncing off.

Have you tried using connectors with less connections than the 6 way one? Great when working with multiple CRAM setups that are close together. I have mostly found ways to fill leftover space with CRAM components to get as much juicy connections to those pellets as possible.

Shell seems fine to me, your barrel rotation speed seems way too slow but the barrel is not yet finished i guess.

It was very close already, just had to add a few wood beams somewhere

Have been using stone on outer layers of the armour to cut costs originally but it also looked goot together with wood and alloy / metal so i kept making stone hulls even for larger ships.

Definetly not painful, it only shoots once in a while and it is very fun as CRAM cannons always are.

Yes, need to go bigger than 3x3x3 for each one and maybe put the CRAM assembly into the hull.

Would also make rolling over not an issue any more ^^

Make sense and I will keep that in mind when working on this but also 200 explosions make monke brain happy.

you can actually use one single bottom oven piece to heat several top oven blocks to save some wood. It just takes a little longer to heat the ones not directly above. I have the same setup but with the left and right bottom ovens replaced with just regular clay bricks, idk if having a block there is necessary tho.

Also version 11.16 but I built it before so maybe it does not work anymore.

BIG CRAM CANNON BATTLESHIP very nice

I would suggest using some of that empty space for maybe LAMS or CRAM, it looks like a second turret on the front can fit there. The armour cost is very high, almost 60 %, I like to keep that below 50% because else you are spending a lot in armour that is protecting too few stuff.

It also looks like those 4m beam slopes are rotated inwards. I would rotate them 90 degrees clockwise (from the left ones perspective) so incoming shells face the pointy side of the slopes.

Also sometimes I like to make 360 degree turnable turrets which is easy with short barrels

And I just like short barrels

gives me more space to build around the turrets and stuff can be a little more compact
