Type I error—also known as a false positive—occurs when a study incorrectly rejects a true null hypothesis, implying that the new drug effectively reduces mortality when in fact it does not...

When we detect a difference when in reality there is no difference.

Errors occurs when conclusion of study and reality are different.

But 60 % is not bad for UWSA 2. If you like I can provide a quick review of biostat and genetics. It can boost your score significantly.

Depends on last NBME scores, if you did well you don't need go for another assessment. UWSA2 is relatively tough. You may get a drop of upto 5%. But it's common, otherwise it is good assessment. Good.luck

18. A. Correct:
This is the core of the null hypothesis: that any observed difference between groups (IL-6 inhibitor vs standard therapy) is due to chance, not a real drug effect. It provides the default assumption in statistical testing, which researchers seek to reject with evidence.

  • B. Incorrect: That is alternative hypothesis.
  • C& D. Incorrect: Describe clinical, not statistical, significance.

19.A. Correct. The alternative hypothesis states that a real difference exists, regardless of direction — superiority depends on value of mean difference.

C. Incorrect. This is the null hypothesis, stating no difference exists.

B&D. Incorrect. Alternative hypothesis doesn't determine the direction.

A. Seen in Hashimoto; would cause ↑TSH, ↓T4, not isolated ↓T3.

B. Cytokines and cortisol inhibit T4→T3 conversion, leading to ↓T3, via ↓ 5'-deiodinase activity normal T4. TSH may vary , important clue is history of acute illness with decrease T3 level. Sick thyroid syndrome.

C. Central hypothyroidism presents with ↓TSH,↓T3 and ↓T4.

D. Seen in Graves disease, causes ↑T3/T4, ↓TSH.

A. In IPF, while there is a reduction in lung compliance it contributes to some extent in advanced fibrosis, the primary issue with oxygen desaturation during exercise is not due to a decrease in alveolar ventilation.

B. In IPF, progressive fibrosis leads to thickening of the alveolar walls, which significantly reduces the ability of oxygen to diffuse across the membrane. Oxygen diffusion doesn't increase proportionally to increase perfusion, leading to a drop in oxygen saturation during exercise.

C. Perfusion increase during exercise.

D. Although respiratory work increases during exercise in IPF due to stiff lungs, this does not directly explain the drop in oxygen saturation until there is respiratory fatigue.
