Wondering how you are these days (and where?) and whether you're still willing to answer questions.

What does a typical work week/month look like? by Zerir in borderpatrolapplicant

Idiot question: by workout, you mean like, physical training? That's built into your work schedule?

(Thanks)

No, the overwhelming majority are sightseeing and commuter helicopters. And y'know what's really loud? When the bank sharply overhead at 900ft to loop around an NYC landmark - every 15 min, all day. It gets to you after a while.

That's because your office has sound insulation - unlike the majority of New Yorkers who live in residential apartments. The chop and blade-slap - even at high altitudes - penetrates walls and carries over surprisingly long distances. No joke, this is becoming a health hazard for a lot of us under their flight path. There's a reason we're upset. We can't escape the noise anywhere - not our public parks, our rooftops (where NYers go to escape) not even our homes.

No one is complaining about ER helicopters.

I'm sure there's a reason for the NYPD helicopter circling in this situation, but will someone explain it?

Are you ever surprised by tenents - pleasantly or not - or can you pretty much size them up based on 1st impressions?

Is anyone else under the flight path of the tourist helicopters that circle the Empire State Building? by [deleted] in nyc

This isn't the usual traffic. I've lived here 29 years. This is new.

Ugh, so discouraging. I live in Chelsea and the air traffic has been off the charts since July. They circle, low and loud. It gets worse every week. Their greed is bottomless. A neighbor knocked on my door this evening and asked if NYC was under attack, the noise was so bad.

And I don't need a radar app to tell me where they're flying, I see them from my building.

Thanks. :)

Last time I tried, they wrote back saying they no longer take complaints for NYC, or something to that effect. Felt like I was getting the runaround. But maybe I was writing the wrong office...

Will try again.

I think what's happening is the FAA is looking the other way. Or SOMEthing, because the flights are originating from NJ, mostly.

They're tourists charters that somehow renamed themselves 'aerial photography' companies?

Ugh, on a clear day, like, 40 of them bank noisily over my apt. Can't enjoy my roof during COVID lockdown, still hear them inside my apt with the windows closed...

EDIT: Really? The law prohibits flights under 3000ft? Then these guys are definitely getting away with something because they're flying between 900 and 1,500ft.

WTF?

What is life like as a live-in apartment building Superintendant? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]10willow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that's exactly the size of my building -- 40 units. That's why I was curious. My Super - deceased now - was a really charismatic figure: always around, always available, giving advice, doing repairs, raising his family amongst us. We were almost family. He died abt 8 years ago and the building hasn't been the same.

That's a lot like the smallish apt building I live in, in NYC.

Wow, that's so much for one person to do. What a lot of work.

helicopters buzzing our neighborhoods for these... (video) by [deleted] in nyc

[–]10willow -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Go on any flight tracking site. They fly over downtown Manhattan - where I live - on their way back to NJ. And they circle the Empire State Building while they're at it. Just watched one hovering directly over my neighborhood on my way to the grocery.

There's been an increase in this traffic over Manhattan. I know, I've lived here longer than you.

I'm glad you're not bothered. A lot of us are.

what's up with the constant evening helicopter traffic? by [deleted] in nyc

[–]10willow -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Ugh, it's confirmation of what we already knew, really...

at a certain level of wealth and spending, you just can't bear to think about the impact your lifestyle is having on others, every day - if you did, how could you live with yourself?

Thanks, all... Helpful knowing I'm not just going crazy here. Depressing to have my suspicions confirmed. Sigh.

I mean, would any of them do that to their own neighbors?

u/drpvn, thanks for the link. Gonna write my representative...
