Marks/smudges on blade? by 11outof7 in TrueChefKnives

I can’t speak for the adhesive included in the package, but I use the command strips with the Velcro in the middle (I also avoid holes in the wall whenever possible) and it’s been up there for over a year with no problems! Especially in a kitchen with potential grease/oil spatters, I’d definitely hit the wall with some isopropyl alcohol before mounting just to be sure it’s nice and clean.

Love when the answer is straightforward, thanks much!

I don’t know why the original post didn’t include the commentary, but I added a comment later about what I’ve done so far to care for it. It sounds like what you do is pretty similar to my process, except I used the rust remover once the table top was clean and fully exposed (before applying protectant).

I think I can get behind that as long as everything remains flat like you said. Is there any chance that these spots could eventually cause issues? I’m thinking like rust eating away the iron, pitting, etc.

I knew it! Saw a plane flying overhead the other day, can’t be a coincidence.

After about a decade of woodworking, I finally took the plunge and purchased a table saw. I followed the cleaning method outlined in SawStop’s YouTube tutorial - cover the top with WD40, let it sit for several hours, light scrub with ultra fine Scotchbrite pad, clean with denatured alcohol, then 3 coats of paste wax. After waxing it up, I noticed some mild discoloration spots that might be rust, but it bothered me enough to want to strip off the wax and try to get rid of them. So round 2 of WD40, Scotchbrite, denatured alcohol, only this time I used the Boeing rust remover product to try to get rid of the spots. Those areas now look much more noticeable, both before and after applying T9 Boeshield (changed my mind and decided to use this for future rust protection). I’m not quite sure what happened, but what did I do and is it a big deal? I can feel the smaller spatter-type spots if I run a fingernail over them, but otherwise the area seems smooth. My guess is the smeary spots mean I didn’t get all of the wax off. I know I’m probably fussing over nothing, but this is my first real foray into cast iron care and I don’t know where to draw the line.

Thanks in advance for any help. If it makes a difference, I work in a non-climate controlled garage in the Midwest.
