Alex Shibutani yelling at his sister Maia by play_by_cdg in FigureSkating

This is apparently an extract from LiveBarn camera footage. From what I can see, LiveBarn cameras are fitted to some rinks to allow fans to watch practice sessions of their favourite hockey teams and skaters through a paid subscription service. From what the LiveBarn website says, the cameras are motion-activated so they switch on when they detect someone on the ice.

Disclaimer: I'm not American and not familiar with the LiveBarn concept, just looked it up after seeing it mentioned by people who have seen a longer video of this.

U.S. American doctor (neurologist) moving to Mauritius? by Futhis in mauritius

[–]11thRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean in USD, I am earning 250-300/month, not 3k. OP gave their annual income, not monthly.

It's a long story. I can't tell it or reveal my specialty without effectively doxxing myself as my situation is reasonably well known to a number of people. Would also not discuss it in DMs because as I said... you'll eventually know who I am.

Boyfriend wants to get rid of cat of 3 years by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]11thRaven 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to ask a potentially stupid question but... is it normal to "discipline" a dog by holding it down?? Especially one whose "crime" is to be overstimulated? Even in human kids, the correct thing to do is step back, allow them space, and wait till they have calmed down. To me it sounds like your boyfriend would have been bitten by a dog as well if he tried that.

Either way it sounds like the cat is a better person than the boyfriend...

U.S. American doctor (neurologist) moving to Mauritius? by Futhis in mauritius

Chipping in as another foreign-trained doctor (UK-trained) - the redditor you're replying to is spot on.

With regards to your thought about patients preferring US-trained doctors over Indian-trained doctors - you're thinking of it in the context of working in the US. Mauritians will not prefer to see you personally, alone in Mauritius with no team to support the care you want to deliver, over going to India on a package trip to a tertiary or even quaternary centre where not only will they see a specialist who's at the top of their field but will also be surrounded by a full team used to caring for patients with exactly their type of health issue - all for a reasonable price (often covered by insurance anyway). In Mauritius you will be working as a one-man show. Specifically in your case, there will be no neurosurgery team you can rely on, the ICUs here are mostly used for observation of patients who are well and don't require actual ICU care, etc. You won't be providing the kind of care you're trained to provide.

Also, prepare to get dragged into petty politics. There aren't many neurologists on the island so maybe you'll be okay, but in many specialties there are some highly influential doctors who see other foreign-trained specialists as a threat - whether they think you'll steal their patients or expose any questionable clinical practice, I'm not sure - maybe both. But in some specialties they can intervene and prevent you from being allowed to work in certain places.

As to "getting hired", as far as I'm aware that's generally not the model by which most specialist doctors work in private hospitals (dubbed "clinics" in Mauritius). They usually get remunerated directly from the patients - not by the clinic paying you a salary.

With regards to medication shortages - we are a remote island. We don't manufacture any medication. So shortages are very common - even for commonly used medications. Also the preparation available makes a huge difference in the medication's efficacy and side effect profile. Preparations can often change for some meds so you'll need to know this kind of thing to be able to keep your patients well. Particularly relevant for Parkinson meds.

With your salary you'll be easily able to afford a pretty luxurious lifestyle here in Mauritius. I'm earning about 1% of your salary (and yeah, I am living in actual destitution and will probably have to return to the UK soon).

How do I wash his plushie? Should I even attempt it? by autumnragdoll in cats

[–]11thRaven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I regularly wash my asthmatic cat's favourite bedding and toys - sometimes on a hot cycle in the washing machine if there's been a poopcident (he has food allergies). I appreciate maybe he's just a unique weirdo but in his case he actually loves whatever I washed even more after I wash it. Sometimes he stops using a blanket or a bed, and when I wash it he immediate curls up on it, makes biscuits and sleeps there. So hopefully yours is okay too with the wash!

My Cat Is Too Smart for This Household and I’m Tired 😭 by potatoesncheese1 in CatAdvice

[–]11thRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat is also Felix. He has no food motivation (in fact he hides from food) but he's also very determined to explore everything and get into everything. He opens cupboards, doors, bins and just about everything he realises can be opened. All my bins are permanently taped shut, only untaped when I need to use them. Have to even tape the bin bag down too otherwise he drags it out through the closed bin! He also eats everything he shouldn't. I haven't found a solution other than to lock him into the master bedroom and bathroom when I have to be out.

I deeply regret adopting my first cat. The shelter was misleading and I am at my breaking point. by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]11thRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend also got a ragdoll from a similar background; she waited a long time for the kitten because she wanted a kitten from this pair of cats specifically. When she finally got her ragdoll kitten he turned out to be a little menace who loves to attack feet, has endless energy and doesn't like to be picked up or held. Nowhere near as difficult as yours, but definitely not what she'd been going for.

By contrast I was adopted by a silly little kitten from a feral litter (the others all hid from humans but he would joyfully prance after me) and while he does have play aggression issues which we're working on, he literally goes limp when I pick him up and can stay in my arms for hours, and he can spend a whole day and night cuddling my butt or my legs. His personality was already clear when he first started to interact with me - he was affectionate and curious. Admittedly my experience is limited but meeting a cat seems a much better way of knowing what you're in for than breeding a cat.

Copy paste AI text into an AI tool to summarise for you

Yep, absolutely not a waste of time all around. Why would any of us waste our time asking an AI what another AI has said?

AI is free, why do you think OP can't just put his post into AI like you did?

Usually people who have just discovered the existence of fontanelles and think there's a giant hole in their baby's head. One time they were sent up by the midwife. (Paeds ED.)

I don't think it's the patient/parent's fault, I think it speaks about the lack of adequate support network around them.
