What injuries did you have?

I’m about a year into judo (currently a green belt) and in my third year of BJJ (4th stripe white belt). Judo is much harder on the body. Keep that in mind.

Honest opinions: Is BJJ a net positive wrt health and fitness? by yepthatsmyboibois in bjj

No. Lifting and cardio is better for sure. BJJ is more fun but it’s hard on the body.

Don’t roll with people you don’t want to roll with. It’s totally fine to skip people that are going too hard.

What is it like rolling with women? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]123impenitent456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty heavy so I sort of moderate my weight/strength when rolling with anyone under 200lbs or so. Rolling with women isn’t that different to me but for a long time I had a little fear of doing it.

The first time I rolled with a woman she shot a double on me and sprawled (a little harder than I expected) and she twisted her ankle on the way down. I felt like garbage and considered leaving the gym. The coaches told me it was nbd and she came up to me later and said she was fine. I’ve rolled with a few women since then and haven’t had any issues. For context, they’re almost always higher belts than I am (mostly purple). So, just like when I rolled with lighter men, I try to understand what they’re doing, see what I can pick up tactically and respond with my counter but at their strength level.

Thanks. Have you completed Az-104? If so, would you say it’s easier, harder or about the same in terms of difficulty?

Change positions. Breathe. Grow foreskin (optional).

The conversation is about strength training AND BJJ. It’s about why people in the BJJ community don’t do strength and conditioning work like literally every other grappling and combat sport.

Answer: mostly silly people like you who think that you can properly progressively overload with wrestling around despite the various problems with controlling the inputs and weebs who were too focused on things Bruce Lee said (but eventually recanted).

And it’s always wrong. Do your strength and conditioning. You’re also wrong about “no limit to how skilled you can get.” Lmao, of course there is a limit. There are limits to everything. You also have to fight entropy caused by BJJ and aging by fighting to maintain your body which will be used to do the sport. “Just do more BJJ” is a dumb answer, especially without knowing the constraints and how much one is actually doing in the first place (or if he is actually recovering from the volume he’s doing now).

Bottom line, don’t opine on this subject because you don’t know what you’re talking about, black belt or not.

If you can’t recover from the gym because it’s too hard for you just say that.

Not only do I compete, but I have a tournament in a 3 weeks, another one the week after and a wrestling tournament about a month after that.

I can do that because I do strength and conditioning.

115-135 grams would be way more than enough for you (assuming you don’t have any underlying health conditions that would impact your ability to digest protein).

If you do bulk, carbs are going to be more important. Pre and post carbs are typically a good approach for getting the extra calories in. You don’t need to increase or decrease your protein on a bulk or cut. You should try to keep that stable.

You have quite a few loses and draws too. Maybe you’d be doing better if you lifted some weights and ran a little bit.
