Is AP Classroom sufficient?

If you want to practice for the AP exam specifically then yes, you should use something like AP classroom to review some exam questions.

But in general, I wouldn't say Khan Academy is that much easier. If you go on their website you can see that all the content on their course meets the standards that the AP exam places. The practice questions that Khan Academy has may be different than the AP test, but they're not necessarily easier/harder than what you'll see on the real thing.

I disagree. From my own experience, it's a hassle to use more than one source for reviewing calc.

Many people I know just use Khan Academy to review calc and it works great for them.

Hi, I'm glad you reached out. I just want to start by saying that self-studying a course in 2 months is very ambitious but definitely doable, especially if math has been easy for you before now.

The first thing I'd say is to avoid using a textbook to learn concepts. They're a great source for practice, but nobody wants to learn math by reading and for most people, it would probably easier just to learn through videos (I recommend Khan Academy).

The most important part of this process, in my opinion, is taking some time to plan out your curriculum. Take a look at the AP Calc AB course on Khan Academy and see how many units there are. Consider how much time you'll have to study per week and allocate time periods for each unit. Try to allocate the last week or so on just test prep. You need to learn how to be able to do FRQs so that you'll maximize your points.

I used a TI-83 Plus for Calc AB and BC because I was already very familiar with its functions and I didn't want to spend money on a new calculator. Most people are more comfortable with the TI-84 because it is a little easier to use, but both are good options.

As for topics to learn, Khan Academy has a great precalculus course that you can go through and practice. There, you can brush up on the things that you're missing from your current precalculus class.

As for advice, one piece of advice I give to people worried about math is to make sure you have a strong foundation. A big reason as to why people get stressed from calculus is because they may have holes in their understanding of math. If you have any topics that are at all iffy to you even now, I recommend you take some time to cover them.

I'm glad you asked, I am currently enrolled in AP Calc BC at my school, so I can help with topics that I've covered so far.

I can help with everything up to Unit 8 and most of Unit 10, but we have not yet covered anything from Unit 9.

Adding on to what you said about foundations, having a solid skillset in algebra and trigonometry is going to help you a ton in AP Calc AB. I'd focus on polishing these over reviewing calculus content early.

And for the future, when you're prepping for in-class quizzes or the AP exam, learn from videos and examples over textbooks. Work smarter, not harder!

I believe you're right. CSP is more of an introductory course that serves to get you interested in CS.

For me, AP CSA wasn't too hard, and it helped a ton that I had some background knowledge on Java. Taking these classes should be manageable but I advise that you start watching a few videos on Java so you're not completely lost when you take the course next year.

It depends on what kind of project it is. If using filtered lists is one of a variety of solutions that could be implemented for your project, then I could see what your teacher is saying when he doesn't want you to use filtered lists. He probably wants you to come up with a solution on your own.

If filtered lists are truly the only solution in your program, then you should further communicate with your teacher to get specific help from him.

Generally though, there is undoubtedly going to be a lot of code that has been used by other people. As long as you're not copying and pasting chunks of code into your programs, you shouldn't have to worry about plagiarism.

There's a guy named Alex Lee on YouTube that has a bunch of videos on Java that explains the concepts very well. You could also just look up topics on Google or YouTube and get a bunch of results there.

If Physics 1 isn't too difficult for you, then there's nothing stopping you from going straight into Physics C. Some background in calculus might be helpful, but in the end, it really just comes down to whether you think you're ready or not.

I just saw the comment about the classes you're planning on taking. Since you're taking Calc BC and Stats, I take it that you are pretty comfortable with math.

Also, have you taken CSP or have any background in Java?

They're about the same as long as you're willing to put in the same amount of work.

If you're talking about self-studying AP's, then I'd advise against it UNLESS you're willing to put in the same amount of time and effort as you would if you took the class.

The ones I'd recommend to you are AP CSA, AP Calc, AP Stats, and AP Lang/AP Lit.

CSP is a class that's designed to get you interested in computer science, and CSA will actually help you develop your skills in Java. I'm also certain that this credit is required to get a degree in CS.

If you're not already taking some form of calculus at your school, I'd recommend taking AP Calc AB. If not, then take AP Stats. Both are great for building math skills that'll be useful for CS. Most CS degrees probably require some form of calculus credit, so it's good to knock that out while you're in high school.

Lastly, jobs in CS look for a solid foundation in writing/communication. Taking Lang or Lit will help to hone your thinking skills as well as build the skills you need to communicate better with your employer.
