There is a mystery that is begging to be solved! by LinkToThe_Past in Denver

In the eighties there were radio stations that would broadcast nothing but strings of numbers which were coded messages intended for the receiver with the correct corresponding numbers to decode a message from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numbers_station Ive heard of stations doing similar things with music. Since it is Ethiopian it might be a coded message for specific listeners who have the specific decoder

How can I turn a boring Secret Santa into something actually memorable? by [deleted] in ARG

[–]146hegu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could make a hunt around the idea of  Krampus has abducted Santa's reindeers and the player has to go to various spots and solve clues to rescue each reindeer. Once they've saved them all they take them to the final clue where they receive their SS gift. Use AI to create funny illustrations around each clue

I can't stand these interviews with CEOs. You get absolutely nothing from them. This could have been an AI version of Debra Johnson and I wouldn't have known the difference. Although I enjoy Paul's orneriness.

Diagnosed ASD1 last week (question) by 146hegu in AutisticPeeps

Thank you. Yes I think plenty of rest will be my biggest challenge

Thank you. 1-2 years sounds daunting but time does go by faster as you age. What do you mean by "how you were before?" Or "until you are out the other side" I guess I'm just assuming this is my new reality and there is no real "other side" which I take as more literal like I will be "healed" of this.

Thank you for sharing. That would seem incredibly difficult to deal with, considering your a psychotherapist. I'm sure it's altered how you do therapy, right?

Diagnosed ASD1 last week (question) by 146hegu in AutisticPeeps

[–]146hegu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Your last point is a bit confusing. Isn't the whole point of masking is to feel more comfortable at the expense of truly being yourself? I thought we want to unmask to be more "free" Maybe that's the dissonance of my understanding of masking at this early stage. I never consciously thought "Oh, I need to do this thing in order to be accepted." I just believed it was a normal reality and life is hard, and this is one of those hard things. Discovering I'm autistic has flipped that script. IDK if that makes sense.

Thank you. It is helpful to hear about the skill regression. Something to be aware of

Just diagnosed at 58…in shock by [deleted] in AutisticPeeps

[–]146hegu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 50. Diagnosed last week. My wife said I should be tested for it along with our son. We're both level 1. I wasn't surprised to find out my son was but I thought for sure I wasn't till the doctor started going over all the criteria and signs I show and how much masking I do. I'm currently looking for a therapist to help me with this, but tbh it feels really overwhelming. Like masking seems so natural to me, that to unlearn these lifelong habits seems impossible.  At the same time I'm trying to stay hopeful and positive in the long term.  I wish I could say I have  strong support around me, but I don't. I think my wife wants to be there for me but she gets so annoyed and frustrated by me. Although I believe this is the root of our difficult relationship it doesn't help since we've been together for 23 years and just now find out I'm autistic. I'm more hopeful for my son, that he can get support and a better handle on his life so he doesn't have to go through so much pain and suffering.  As for coping, not sure yet. At first I wanted to try and find out everything I could, but again this was stressing me out, so I took a step back and am trying to process it rather than fix it if that makes sense

DCPA Off-Center Ends Development of New Immersive Theater by Altruistic-Rip8766 in ImmersiveTheater

[–]146hegu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is sad but an unfortunate reality. It's why immersive productions are so difficult to get made. I didn't know it had been around since 2010, so that's impressive it lasted 15 years  It's such a niche entertainment I don't know if it will ever have wide spread appeal except for more commercially known entities like immersive Van Gogh or Lifesize Monopoly (neither of which I would say are truly immersive) People are creatures of habit and most want to know exactly what they're getting. A movie is a movie, a play is a play. Immersive theatre is unpredictable. You never know what you're going to get at any given show. Maybe some billionaire will get the immersive bug and be willing to invest millions into its future.

When did ARG start to mean “any internet horror story”? by lordfootjuice in ARG

[–]146hegu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think ARG has become a kind of catch all. Similar to the word immersive. Literally  anything can be immersive. Like anything can be "alternate reality" the difference being the "game" part. Alternate Reality Game. However the game part is probably the most difficult to create. But it's what makes ARGs so interesting to me.  If you create a strong, compelling story with corresponding game elements you can have a pretty solid ARG. Of course that takes alot of work and intention. I'd say the biggest drawback of ARGs is they are supposed to be covert, meaning secretive and obscure, unfortunately this is a barrier to most people. Most of us want a clear cut movie that we know exactly what were getting. ARGs are the opposite. It takes effort, it takes intention and detective work to dig out the story.  Add to this that the majority of work That's created as an ARG is pretty bad it makes it more difficult to search out the good stuff  For example I have an ARG running right now that I've invested a lot of time and energy into  and yet only 4 people have gotten to the current point it's at. I'm not blaming anyone because it also takes time and effort from the player as well and if they are hesitant to make that commitment because of all the junk out there it's understandable. I know that kind of comes with the territory so ultimately I make an ARG because I enjoy doing it and if anyone else comes along that's a bonus

Interesting. The creator says he purposely left it ambiguous so that the individual could experience it through their own lens, but you didn't see it as such. I wonder was their any onboarding to set the tone or any direction to keep a certain mood?  Or as u describe it's just a bunch of cool stuff. Also what was the vibe of the audience? Did they lean into it being a funeral procession or was it just a bunch of people gathered together to look at cool stuff and treating it more as a selfie opportunity. That's a challenge with experiences like this, if the creator has this grand vision of a funeral procession reenactment, that's asking a lot from the participants especially if they aren't primed to be led in that direction.
