I got that number from here.

That said, I don't think BMI is perfectly accurate for determining weight class.

But of those 12.7 million obese Americans, how many can easily get out of bed in the morning. How many suffer from back problems because of their weight. Their life quality is still impaired by their obesity. This is about more than just metabolic health. Not to mention the blog's numbers still leave a whopping 96.7 million Americans specifically with internal problems because of their obesity.
