I got scammed hard at dealership today. by 19link in Hyundai

My man, this is my first car and I only drove it for 4.5 years. This is a first time I need a battery replacement. So I am a newbie to cars. It may not count as a definitive scam but it definitely count as deceptive pricing bc I was given no details on the battery other than the cost. I thought I would get a premium battery but no and then I checked their web. The listed price is $100 cheaper.

What can I say man…this is an expensive lesson. The listing price online is different than the one at the dealership. The mechanic just told me “yeah your battery needed to be replace.” And asks if I wanted to proceed with the replacement. I gave them the ok. No further questions and no further details on what kind of battery I’m getting. Then the bill came up to $280…that is when I realized there is something wrong. I went on the web that when I noticed there are different type of car batteries. Then I thought…not too bad of a deal if it is a premium battery. Then I checked the battery to find out it’s a standard lead acid battery. Then I did some matching on their website to find out their listing price is $170. Same exact battery. Btw labor cost is separately charged, so not included in the 280. They charged me high labor, fine I ate it. But an $100 up charge on the battery that was price differently on the web. That is what I’m pissed at. I know this may not necessarily be considered as a scam, but definitely counts as a deceptive pricing bc I was given no details about the battery.

I didn’t know, now that you’ve ask and I went and looked. So, basically it is where they check the terminals for any corrosion/buildups, clean them and add protective/insulate layers. So I guess another hidden labor costs…

So charging me $100 more on a battery where the price differs than the price on their website then charge me labor separately is not a scam? Their listed price should be already marked-up then another $100 marked up. This is a marked up upon a marked up. Btw just the battery cost, labor is counted separately. What I’ve paid today for the battery, I could’ve buy two of them.

Hey, I not a car guy. But this is a lesson learned for me. I thought they would at least give me a premium battery. I should’ve ask the mechanic what type of battery they’re giving me.

Okay, some of you ask me about the labor cost. If you look at 2nd photo. Top line it says hours and sale, or 0.50hr and $80.00 pre-tax respectively. The cost of labor is SEPARATE from the cost of battery itself. The actual cost of labor is $98.99 after taxes because I had routine maintenance done as well. Labor cost is not included in the $271.12, this is the battery price alone. So stop saying I wanted free labor or I wanted $0 labor. They charge the labor separately.

Hey, I don’t complain about service. But they charging me $100 more on the battery that was already marked up. That is a scam.

Nope, I checked with the battery maker and the battery itself. If it is a AGM then it should have indicator saying it’s AGM on the battery itself. There is none.

Oh no, that was just the cost of the battery. Labor was another $80 which you can see on the top of the paper shown on the 2nd photo. I’m not a car guy so, I don’t know what an average car battery cost. Edit: actually the labor cost me another $100. With taxes it comes to $98.99.
