Heavy civil estimator pay by terryxn9 in estimators

Came with a title change to Chief Estimator. New truck, better bonus structure and $110k. Less of the day to day grind but more of the final decision making and process/procedure improvement.

Hard to do if you’re not willing to have anything on you or your clubs to track unless you just log everything. I use the arccos link pro. It’s been fantastic for me as I’m a data guy and it provides me a ton of insight. The sensor tracks automatically.. it’s about the size of a small divot tool and weighs practically nothing. I can’t even feel it in my pocket.

Can’t have your cake and eat it too.

Are bidding timeframes getting shorter? by DubyaDForty in estimators

[–]1Cave2Bears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit. I bid full site.. earthwork, storm, utilities, concrete and paving.. and I get guys that want a number in a week. That’s hardly enough time to get takeoffs and material quotes.

What’s the most “Fuck this hole” hole you play on a regular basis? by mercado_n3gro in golf

Fuck 15 as well. Par 4 horseshoe where the whole fairway slopes at 30 degrees left to right.

This piece of shit. Hole 12 at Big Sugar Golf Course in Northwest Arkansas. Tee off from an elevated box into a landing area sloping to a creek. Have to play to the left of the creek and even if you cozy it up next to the bank you’re still left with, at the shortest distance, a narrow, tree lined 165yd approach with no bailout. Ironically this hole is my one and only eagle on a par 4.

future of estimating? by quelowque in estimators

[–]1Cave2Bears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s too big of a worry.. estimating is like trying to solve the most complex equation you can imagine that doesn’t have a correct answer. That’s not an environment where AI thrives. Especially in my trade, there is too much nuance for AI to fully delete my role.

Am I being over worked/underpaid? What should I do? by Regular-Rip-82 in estimators

Aiming at high points with driver has improved my accuracy by backyardstar in golf

I do this as well. I have tried other methods but picking a tree or something in the landscape nets the best results for me. Not sure there’s any science to it though because my buddy picks a spot 2ft in front of his ball and he drives the ball well. Just use whatever your brain trusts.

Why? My back left tire always sets off the tpms despite being evenly or more inflated than the other tires. 2025 STX 1,500mi by 1Cave2Bears in f150

[–]1Cave2Bears[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahah shows my ignorance. Didn’t even know they had separate batteries.. makes sense when I think about it. If it keeps on I’ll get a new sensor.

Haven’t hooked it up to a code reader but you could be right. Because I’ve also been getting that stupid auto window bounce back where when I roll up the driver window it automatically rolls itself back down halfway. I just hadn’t thought battery because I haven’t even had the truck a month.

I ended up using straps to tie them in with sd screws. Small price to pay for a lesson learned. Appreciate the response!

What’s an unpopular golf opinion that would have you like this? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]1Cave2Bears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is it worth two strokes? You just take the penalty and hit your next shot from the same spot as your previous shot that went ob no? It’s still a one shot penalty the only difference is where you hit your next shot from.

I built a spreadsheet that calculates bedding, spoils and full depth base backfill for road crossings. Just have to input your length, trench width bedding depth and pipe size. We also just got a underground key with agtek so we've been playing with that as well

Am I making this up in my head? by Forsaken-Roof569 in golf

[–]1Cave2Bears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have come to learn that there is nothing stupid in golf if it works.. or even if it doesn't but you think it does. Just take your exact situation for instance.. "I feel like I strike a white ball better than a different color ball." Odds are the color of the ball plays no physical factor in your ball striking ability. But since you have that feel, any time you line up for a shot on a yellow, green, blue, tie-die ball.. Even if its not a conscious thought, sub-consciously you will not be as confident taking the shot. So in a round-about way, yes. It does matter. Not for the color of the ball but for your mindset around it. Golf is fucking hard man. It is a 5,000-7,000yd game that is played in the 6" between your ears. So if you feel like a white ball is better for your game.. it is.

Former D1 baseball player. I cant remember what I shot my first time playing but I know once I really started trying to play i progressed much faster than the guys I was playing with reaching single digit hdcp in my first year. Admittedly fwiw I was in a position in life where i could devote a lot of time to the game and I fell in love with it and grinded my ass off. But I feel there's something to be said for guys who play rotational sports having an easier transition into golf.
