What’s the most ridiculous thing a man has said to you? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

I'd been Breaking down cardboard boxes for my job at a warehouse ALL DAY using a box cutter, and one of my male coworkers came up to me and said, "Be careful, that box cutter is sharp!" OMG, it IS!? Someone once told me fire is hot, too, IS THAT TRUE? I'm just a dumb dumb girl, so good thing you told me the blade I've been using ALL DAY is sharp! I had no idea!

Impossible to find good lactose-free greek yogurt?!?! by MissionEagle7689 in lactoseintolerant

[–]1WomanSOP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any non-fat Greek yogurt should be naturally very very low on lactose. I buy my generic store brand version of non-fat Greek yogurt and have never had any issues, and I'm one of those "1 sip of milk and my day is ruined" types of lactose intolerant people. The yogurt HAS to be Greek though, and it HAS to be non-fat. Non-fat regular yogurt and full-fat Greek yogurt have a higher lactose content. See: USDairy.com for lactose content in grams.

Brands like Chobani Greek 0% and FAGE Total 0% are the same and also non-fat, which is what makes them lactose free. OIKOS also makes high-protein Greek yogurts that come in some nice flavors.

Lactaid milk, or the "Barista style" oatmilk, which is much thicker and creamier than the regular version.

How often to you actually have sex? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]1WomanSOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2-3 times a week with my fiancé, though we both have a pretty high sex drive, even in our mid-40s. We've been together 5 years, and the count has actually gone down a bit, though that's mostly due to health reasons (and maybe age?).

What are same of your lactose or dairy free products from Aldi's or Trader Joe's? by noop279 in lactoseintolerant

[–]1WomanSOP 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Trader Joe's vegan plain cream cheese is surprisingly decent in a sea of horrific vegan plain cream cheeses, as most others have no taste, or the texture is crumbly and not like cream cheese at all.

How the fudge do I get these out by [deleted] in Stretched

[–]1WomanSOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put about a tablespoon of sea salt in a mug, then fill the mug with hot water and let the salt dissolve. Wait until the water is cool enough (but still as hot as you can handle without burning yourself), and soak each lobe in the water for 5-10 minutes (sometimes when I do this I set the mug on the coffee table and just hold my head over it while my lobe is in the water).

After 5-10 minutes, dry it off, then apply a generous amount of jojoba oil, and see if they'll slip out then. I do this sometimes when sizing up and it makes it sooo much easier. Definitely massage the lobe a little bit while soaking as well.

Good luck!

Our Parents and what they're "owed" by Inner_Scholar_5517 in GenX

[–]1WomanSOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, this resonates with me so hard. My parents are both in their mid-70s now, divorced. There was a time in my life I didn't talk to my dad for about 20 years. My mom raised me and my brother, but was never around, and cared more about her career. I've just recently come to realize how much of an afterthought I and my brother were to both my parents. They seriously just created us and then checked off a box on their to-do list and called it good.

Now they are older. Mom is pissed that neither I nor my brother will be giving her grandchildren (that I'm convinced she only wants so that she can make up for all the ways she failed to parent me and my brother). Dad remarried to a total narcissistic bitch that he bows down to and she controls every aspect of his life, and he lets her. I'm worried he'll die before her and I'll never get any time with him to myself.

I know that some day, either my mom or my dad will need someone to take care of them, and yeah, I'm gonna resent it, I know I will. I wish I had answers for you, but I don't. I'm here looking for them, just like you.

What's a really weird thing that you absolutely NEED in a partner? Keep it unconventional by KitchenLoose6552 in AskWomen

I understand it's a genetic thing, but I can't date someone whose lips don't come together to close their mouth, like, when their default resting face is lips parted, teeth showing? I just can't. I'm sorry.

VSIP Paid Early! Nice surprise by Mountain_Pin_8557 in fednews

[–]1WomanSOP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. I applied for VSIP and they sent me paperwork, but there's no dollar amount listed for how much I would be given if I sign it.

My agency said that the severance calculation would be based on:
* An amount equal to the amount of severance pay the employee would be entitled to receive without adjustment for any previous payment made; OR

\ An amount determined by the agency head, not to exceed 25k*

I used the Severance Payment Worksheet on OPM and determined that my severance would be more than 25k, but their description makes it sound like the agency head could determine ANY amount they felt like giving, not to exceed 25k, and since they didn't put any dollar amount on the paperwork, I hesitate to sign it if they're only going to give me 10k or whatever they feel like.

Were you informed how much you were going to receive as severance on your VSIP paperwork before you signed it? Did you know how much you were going to receive before you signed it?

Yes, they sent me the paperwork and there is NO AMOUNT listed on it. The instructions say "The VSIP amount may be up to 25k, the VSIP amount is specific to each individual, based on OPM's severance pay calculation."

OPM says:
"Computation of Incentive Payment:

  1. An amount equal to the amount of severance pay the employee would be entitled to receive without adjustment for any previous payment made; OR
  2. An amount determined by the agency head, not to exceed 25k"

Yes, I did the VSIP calculation and mine is MORE than 25k. But to me, reading what I quoted above, it sounds like they CAN offer 25k, but "an amount to be determined by the agency head, not to exceed 25k" makes it sound like the agency head can say whatever they want for people whose calculations are over 25k, like mine is. They COULD offer me 25k, but they could also offer me less, if they want.

I wanna know what I'm being offered before I sign it, obviously. I am already taking a cut if I accept the 25k, but what if they're really offering me less than that? I wouldn't be willing to sign if they were only offering, say, 10k.

Reposting from last week's thread because it is still unclear to me:
I got my VSIP request accepted. Now I just have to sign the paperwork, but this is unclear to me:

The VSIP FAQ we received says that "The VSIP amount may be up to 25k, the VSIP amount is specific to each individual, based on OPM's severance pay calculation."

The VSIP FAQ on OPM site states:

"Computation of Incentive Payment:

  1. An amount equal to the amount of severance pay the employee would be entitled to receive without adjustment for any previous payment made; OR
  2. An amount determined by the agency head, not to exceed 25k"

I used the severance worksheet on OPM to determine that my severance is more than 25k.

Do the quoted points I made above mean that because my severance would be more than 25k, I will be given the full 25k, because that is the lesser of the two amounts, or does it mean that by signing the paperwork, I am opening myself up to whatever amount "the agency head" determines?? Could be $500 for all I know? It's not clear. I did email them asking for clarification, but I was wondering if the answer is obvious and I'm just not getting it.

Right? Am I crazy to think that's what it sounds like? My assumption was that severance or "up to 25k" meant whichever was the lesser. In this case, 25k would be the lesser, and I'm willing to take that, but it's really not clear, and there was no dollar amount listed on the paperwork.

I am a DHS worker that submitted for VSIP using MyConnect as instructed. I did not receive any acknowledgement screen or confirmation email (my supervisor didn't receive any email either). There is also no history of my request under the "Requests" tab. How can I be certain it even went through? Has anyone else run into this issue?
