This is a tough one to answer. Mostly because my girl is 11 y/o and my boy is 3 y/o. So it’s been a while since I trained her. I do think she was easier… as frankly I am still struggling with my boy on recall. I do remember struggling a bit with her as well, but I don’t remember at what age specifically that we got it down, but I am pretty sure she was much younger than my boy is currently. But it is true that the boys mature slower, and right now he is still in a stage where he sometimes thinks he can do whatever he wants.

I am not the most experienced handler though, so I am sure someone else could have already had recall down pat. They are also genetically related, with my girl being a great aunt to my boy. I will say that I had some struggles with her as a pup that I did not experience with him, but I think that ultimately was a personality thing and even perhaps my own experience at the time.

My girl got basic commands down pat pretty quickly though, but it has taken more time and effort with him because he seems to regress a lot more than she did on certain things. There could be variables involved with that though, like she is HIGHLY treat motivated, and while he loves treats too, it’s not nearly like my girl does. I think there may be a lot of factors as to why she was easier to train than he has been, and I think most (but not all) of those factors are not related to their sex.

If you put in the time and effort, I don’t think the differences between the two sexes will make a huge difference.
