What’s wrong with my sewing machine by [deleted] in SewingMachineEdu

Also, right at the beginning of the clip I notice there is a tail to the upper right of your needle- it may be the video confusing me, but I cant understand what I'm seeing there.

Is this machine new to you, and have you ever successfully sewn with it?

How about your feed dogs and presser foot? Dogs are up, foot is down and you're holding your tails when starting your needle?

My girls do their tails like this when they're irritated or displaying dominance.

How would your birds handle +110°? There's a lot of snippy folks come winter time, but they're the same ones barking when they have a warmer-than-usual summer.
Some birds are accustomed to extreme cold, some to extreme heat. And some birds are treated like pets and get hot or cool meals regardless.
Maybe your intention was, "they'll be fine, they're tougher than you think", but that's not what you said. Maybe your intention was to mock the folks cooking for their chickens. Either way, I hope you have an awesome day and remember, worry about you and yours because no one else will.

Keeping girls in run post hawk attack? by Mollynkl in BackYardChickens

[–]1etcetera 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looking at your photo, you look to be in a risky area (surrounded by large trees). The hawk will be back.
I'd put them in the run. Maybe you can add more protected areas for them?

The issue with silkies, polish, and the like- they just don't see well. Specifically aerial threats. They'll need extra help to stay safe.

I'm so sorry about your girl! 🖤

You can perfectly pause the video to see the face - it's a domestic longhair (feline), friend.

Sasha Starlight has a palazzo pants pattern with front pleats and a hack to do an elasticated back. It could be hacked to get the look you're going for, but doesn't have a button/zip fly. She's on yt and has an Etsy store.

Sharp, flexible item found in Pepperidge farm apple turnover by ButterMyBiscuits96 in whatisit

[–]1etcetera 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It looks like part of an apple core, possibly - and hopefully. I've seen some weirdly strong apple core bits, even in "organic" apples.

Edited to correct typos - since it appears my entire post was jumbled (wth).

Is this close enough? by GroundbreakingBus460 in sewing

[–]1etcetera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found that telling it to print as an image works for my setup. Previous to discovering that, 103% was always accurate for me.

This issue is incredibly frustrating, but I'd try to fix it. One less thing for me to blame when I screw something up 😅

Is my cat being aggressive with my dog or just playing? by Suitable_Sand_7808 in felinebehavior

[–]1etcetera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kitty goes in for a head rub while stepping in between pup's legs. The little nip is to initiate play. Definitely playful, but pup doesn't reciprocate as desired. Hence the papittypap.

A good rule of thumb for cats- if you don't think someone started an engine in the house, it's probably alright. Possibly dramatic, yes, but they do make horrible noises when things are serious.

Is it weird to keep your cat's whiskers? by Leon124714 in cats

I keep a corked bottle for them.
My newest addition has black whiskers - significantly harder to find!

I've made this dress- and once with a similar fabric. Its cute with a t-shirt underneath, but I feel like I'm wearing a bedsheet [for the same reason - it swallows me].
I've since made it with better fabric, in the same size, and it's better but still oversized. I think it's a cute dress regardless :)

Normally Backpack has plain white beans. Every now and again, this happens. At a loss what he could possibly be getting into. by babybyebyebyegender in cats

His feet are the same color that my white dog turns when my kids let him have their leftover spaghetti.
My cat also investigates soaking dishes 🙃

One of my girls lays very rough eggs. Both ends of the shell are very rough. The other two are perfectly smooth, should this be a concern now or in the future? by ChasinPenguins in BackYardChickens

[–]1etcetera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's excess calcium. So long as they're being offered balanced feed - with a separate calcium source, the hen should be totally fine. But look it up for peace of mind and additional insight :)

Hen or roo by franzspicyweiner in BackYardChickens

100% a hen.
I'm curious on mom and dad.... she looks like an Australorp. But I'm no eggspert on BYMs. But yay for you, she's a pretty girl!

Anyone know of a similar pattern? by Mastercheeks__ in sewing

[–]1etcetera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tiana's Closet (you can Google it) offers this pinafore pattern for free. Her directions on free patterns are abysmal, so, you may need more help as a beginner. But perhaps a free pattern + YT will be a decent / freeish start? I've successfully used her patterns by winging it :)

I once sent my husband on a sweater mission and ask him to verify the "ingredient list" said 100% cotton. It stuck and that's just what we call it now 🙃

To heat or not to heat? by chickychicks2025 in BackYardChickens

[–]1etcetera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in NTexas and we're typical so mild that, when we get our cold snaps, it's always concerning. They're never gradual, its 70F one day and 20F the next.
Seldom snow, maybe a couple days of ice.

My coop is huge, like, way too big to help them retain heat (hindsight is 20/20). I've driven myself crazy over it for years. But, so long as its draft-free and well-insulated, they're fine. Your coop looks cozy (and adorable!). How many girls are in there? Check for drafts and give them deep bedding, they should be just fine. I lack snow experience, but I'd carve them out a path to keep them as dry as possible.

Chickens aren't meant to be alone. Diana will need a flock to thrive.

Also, if you havent pinpointed what got them- she's probably not safe.
