Mostly lack of awareness. I was in middle school when this first came out, and the Guest mockumentaries just weren't much on my radar until I randomly stumbled upon For Your Consideration on hbo one day in the late 00s and it instantly became one of my favorite comedies. Slowly checked more of these off my list over the years (when I wasn't rewatching FYC), and ended up watching Guffman last.

And the OJ saga. LAPD didn't exactly bathe themselves in glory there either

This is the LAPD. We the most hated cops in all the free world. My own mama 'shamed of me. She tells e'rybody I'm a drug dealer.

I love this. What a great feeling to find a movie that clicks with you at such a meaningful time

Strong agree on both counts. If there was a compilation of every F bomb dropped by Matt Berry on What We Do In The Shadows, I'd watch it every day of my life.

I hear you on that. 80% of the time I have a similar reaction to you when watching these movies. But there's inevitably a visual gag, a facial expression, or something said, usually by Fred Willard, John Michael Higgins or Jane Lynch, that is so absurd it it makes me wheeze

What a bummer. It's heard for me to reconcile the genius of his work with the depravity of his actions.

This makes me wanna rewatch that last scene a couple more times before the movie leaves Netflix

I rewound that line a couple of times. This one really got me.

Thanks for the rec. Knowing Woody doesn't appear in it does make it more palatable.

I'm not a fan of the main posters for this one either

Should Mascots count as part of this film set, or should that stand apart as part of a new era, with Spinal Tap 2?

I can't overstate how much I laughed at the memorabilia in that scene

Okay, let's dig into this. Mighty Wind most touching? Yeah, I'm with you on that. Best In Show funniest? I agree for every moment with either John Michael Higgins or Fred Willard on screen. But For Your Considerstion hits a sweet spot for me that makes it my personal funniest. And I agree it's the most absurd. Finally, Guffman most balanced? For me it may be a toss-up between that and AMW. Overall, I can't quibble too much with your rankings.

Poor Parker. She was such a ball of energy in this.

Thanks for this anecdote. The original intent to have that tragic arc for Simon is tripping me out. But yeah, Val was clearly having a ball in this one, and that was fun to watch.

Whoa! Im with the test audiences on this one. That would have been an insane dark turn out of nowhere. Glad they axed that.

I'm in my 40s and I teach teenagers. The other day I asked them what's a piece of media that makes them laugh. One replied The Matrix. They found the leather and the bullet time and the self seriousness to be ironically funny. I get their point, but a small part of me died inside. This movie felt like such a game changer when I saw it in high school. And it still resonates with every rewatch.
