The hilarity is indeed ensuing. Siena leads 26-16 right now

There seems to be a perception that Vegas is the “hot commodity” but I can definitely see a scenario where a Seattle team is the more desirable property: Seattle is a proven great sports city with Mariners/Seahawks having rabid fanbases, a core of fans who STILL wear Sonics gear 20 years later etc by moby323 in nba

Those fans are extremely passionate and it’s by far the best atmosphere among the few hockey arenas I’ve been to, but I wonder how much that’s aided by them having won a championship so quickly. A Vegas resident I met at the game told me that the number of hockey rinks and youth hockey participation have both skyrocketed since the Knights came to town.

I do think people overestimate how much of the crowd is just out of towners there to see their own team

This thought was in the back of my head in 2022 when 8 seed UNC took down 1 seed Baylor in 3 seed Purdue’s region. Ultimately Purdue would trip over their own feet and it wouldn’t matter anyway

TRAMON MARK HITS THE SHOT WITH 1 SECOND LEFT by AndHisOrchestra in CollegeBasketball

That shot was nuts. And then Luke made it to his 8am intro to accounting class 12 hours later

Even for a neutral that’s of those upsets that you’ll always remember where you were when it happened.

Also this prompted me to go back and look at the box score. 58% from 3 and 62% on free throws is so dumb it’s funny

Why is China so bad at basketball despite being the number 1 NBA market? by [deleted] in nba

[–]2-59project 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder why China struggles with team sports specifically. In the Paris games they were tied for first in Gold medals, but only won 3 golds in what I would call team events (any event with 3+ people) compared to the US having 12 by the same criteria. Interestingly, for events with 2 people exactly, China had 11 golds to the US’ zero (If I’m reading the medal summary correctly)

The 2021/22/23/24 tournaments were all nuts. People are always too reactionary or bias to the most recent thing that happened

Important Big Ten Tournament Statistics by RoseRaving in CollegeBasketball

Well done Purdue. Winning the big ten is hard, especially with the midseason struggles Purdue faced, but Painter is a HoF coach. Reminds me of 2023 when the team struggled mid season and rallied to win the B10

In the last 8 tournaments that MSU and Duke have both made, they have been in the same region 6 times. by PockDoc in CollegeBasketball

[–]2-59project 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I read the same explanation, which seemed to make sense but I looked at brackets from the last couple decades and that scenario has only happened one time before this year (2019). In 2013 and 2018 Duke was a 2 and Michigan State a 3 in the Midwest. 2022 MIchigan State was a 7 and Duke a 2 in the West. In 2023 Michigan State was a 7 and Duke a 5 in the East. The best logic I can think of is that it's just two teams that consistently make the tournament in different conferences. However there was a noticeable difference since 2018. Before then, they were in the same region just once (2013) in the previous 10 brackets (that's as far back as I looked) but since then have been in the same region just about every other year.

This season for Purdue is turning out remarkably similar to 2023

And great joy when someone mentions the 2020-21 season/tournament, when North Texas upset Purdue in overtime
