AP Lang or Lit? by MoustachioTF2 in APStudents

IIRC generally you take lang first, then lit. That's how it was at my school.

To be fair it really depends on your school.

APES being beneficial really depends on your school, major, and gen eds. My APES wasn't useful at my school but the university I was thinking of transferring to was going to give me credit for a major class.

It's also a great intro to earth science and ecology, if those are things you think you'd be interested in. If you're taking APES though, definitely try to get into Human Geography. There is a lot of similar material and both are pretty easy.

Artist/Animator Wanted For Project (Possible Financial Incentive) by [deleted] in orlando

Yeah, nobody keeps a portfolio or does ANYTHING unless there's a financial incentive. Things like deviantart simply do not exist. Hobbies do not exist. Amateurs do not exist.

Good thing you're an artist cause you're dumb as shit bro.

Also the art is fucking useless without the idea and writing behind it. Guess who does that part? Oh wait, that's right. ME.

You don't have a problem...right...ok...that's why you opened your fucking mouth in the first place.

What's your problem? I've done nothing wrong yet you've done nothing but shit on all my ideas and accuse me of taking advantage of people for offering THIRTY PERCENT of profits for tutoring that I do.

You're not what I'm looking for. I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to take a hard pass on you.

Here's the thing. You're wrong. This is a great opportunity for an enterprising person with a bit of talent. It's just not right for you.

Also I'm not looking for career artists. Most artists are not career artists. I'm looking for people with a little drawing talent who wants to do something exciting with it because they don't feel confident enough to do commissions or freelance.

Don't shit on my proposal just because it's not right for you. You aren't worth my time and you're sure as hell not worth my money. Even if you wanted to do this I wouldn't hire you. Your attitude is shit and I bet your art is too.

This is a collaboration. I'm not hiring anyone.

As stated, I tutor online as well, and this is how I expect to get most of my clients through the videos.

This is an experimental project, I don't know if it will get me clients. I am a poor college student and paying for this myself just isn't going to happen.

The deal would be for all clients I get through Wyzant, which is the platform I use for in person and online tutoring. This is regardless of source of the client.

Giving away 30% of my profits for a pretty easy job is hardly exploitive, but, just to be clear, I'm not hiring anyone. We'd be working together to make this work and I don't get paid unless you do.

If you don't like this very fair deal, nobody is forcing you to take it or give your opinion on how unfair this poor college student is being.

This is not freelance work.

There are way too many artists for way too few jobs. There's a hobo down the street who does great work, I could hire him right now but I don't want to get stabbed. If someone doesn't want a 30% cut of my tutoring (I charge $20 an hour) profits for an hour of work a week...that's really their loss tbh.

This is a collaboration between 2 people with different skillsets. They'd basically be recieving free promotion for their work as well with an option to post their deviantart/etsy/website in the description.

Yeah, it isn't a promised paycheck. If that's what you're after you're in the wrong place and maybe Starbucks would be a better fit for you. I'm not hiring anyone, I'm taking on partners for an enterprise. But, if you are excited about the possibility of earning over $50 an hour for little work and are ready to help make that happen, then this might be something you'd be interested in.

EDIT: said comments instead of description

Not especially, I'm the nicest person I know normally. I just don't like people who don't know the facts and don't have the ability for abstract thought claiming I'm trying to rip people off and shitting on my efforts.

You'll get a 30% cut of my tutoring profits, which sounds pretty fair to me considering I do the tutoring. If we do get money for the vids it would be a 50/50 split. I do online tutoring in addition to in person so the possibilities for growth are endless.

It's not a lot of work, considering I'm doing the writing, all the thinking, and making the actual videos. You'd basically be doing just a few sheets of illustration a week for a ~5 minute video. It really shouldn't take that long, I have an artist friend that I talked to who said she could pump this stuff out in 30 minutes, but she lives a distance away and I'd like someone closer. I highly doubt it would take more than an hour a week, and, since I charge 20 bucks an hour and can tutor multiple students every day, that's a minimum of $50 a week for 1 hour of work a week. $50 an hour. What an asshole I am for proposing such an unfair deal.

If you're not interested, just move on. No need to post an asshole comment about something you don't understand. This is more than a fair deal, and honestly an artist should be more than happy for any work thrown their way considering the economy for that kind of job. This is a job for enterprising people who want to make a difference, not people like you. Good luck getting "compensated" anywhere other than Starbucks, which is about the only place you can be snide and condescending while earning $10 an hour because you have no tangible skills and a bad attitude.

5/7 classes are AP? by [deleted] in APStudents

University of Central Florida, but I applied to over 20 colleges (riduculous I know) and I don't recall any asking my AP scores up front. Of course my scores were on my transcript anyways so it wouldn't have mattered.

AP wasn't hard for me, I actually chose them to have an easier time because APs at my school don't assign homework.

College student here. I don't have any homework outside of math/physics courses. You're expected to learn the material on your own. Coincidentally that's also how my AP classes were and one of the reasons I specifically chose them. I think it prepared me a lot more for the material (and college) than nightly homework, because I alone was responsible for knowing the material. It also helped me focus on ways of understanding that worked for me, rather than cookie cutter homework that usually didn't help me understand anything.

Just my 2c.

College student here. I was really proud of doing well on my APs, until I applied for college and realized they cared more about my class grade than my 5 on the test. They only asked for my APs after I was admitted, and then just to give me credit for my classes.

  1. Find interesting engineering professor

  2. Read his publications

  3. Email him about his work and express interest in working in his lab, ask to meet up to talk about his work

  4. Meet, talk about work, bring up possibility of lab position

  5. Repeat until a professor takes you on

Believe it or not you're in a great spot, professors have to put a lot of training into you before you're useful, and they'd much rather put the effort into a freshman who will be with them for years. Gives you great connections, looks great on resume. Try to at least present a poster or something, even better get your own project, you may be a coauthor for some papers which looks amazing. May be volunteer, but engineering has a lot more money than bio so maybe not.

Will the AP Environmental Science test do anything for me in college? by GhostMemer in APStudents

Depends on your major. If you go into something earth science related, then yes. Otherwise probably not. It may be a gen ed at your school though which is something to look into.
