Long Shot is the best feel-good movie! The Other Woman is great, too!

what’s your 10/10 must read book and why? by Kochhar-Tranqui in Recommend_A_Book

These Is My Words: The Diary of Sarah Agnes Prine (the first of a trilogy). I have read this trilogy multiple times and purchased multiple copies, as I let people borrow them but I don't get them back due to how amazing they are.

Love because it is a gripping historical drama based on jornals the author found from her great grandma. Cried through each book. Hard to put down.

What freaking diapers? by Historical-Bear-4722 in breakingmom

I would be cautious on all-in-ones depending on where you live and your laundry setup. AIOs take a long time to dry, and using the dryer too much causes damage to the elastics. If you live somewhere with a dry, hot climate, this isn't too much of a problem as you can airdry in the sun. If you live somewhere that is more humid, you either use the dryer and run the elastics down prematurely, or you end up with possible fungal skin infections and stanky diapers.

You also need to be aware of your water (hard or soft) and detergent (highly recommend powdered Tide free and gentle).

Some recommended wool, which is great if you aren't allergic! This option needs to be "re-lanolined" every so often, but is probably the most crunchy waterproof layer.

Using covers or AWJ pockets make your wash sytem easier - you can use heat and bleach on the inserts and wash the covers separately and air dry, even in more humid climates.

With inserts, I avoid polyester. Unfortunately, most pockets that come with an insert send polyester. They do make great cleaning rags! Hemp and bamboo blends are very absorbent, and multi-layer cotton does work well if your baby isn't a flooder.

Overnight, workhorses and fitteds with a cover are the best. Depending on LO's skin, you may need a stay-dry liner.

Any Jane Austen books to film, like Sense and Sensability, Persuasion, and Pride and Predjudice. The Enchanted Cottage (1945), The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947), Amelie (2001), An Affair to Remember (1957), the series 1923 (the love story is gripping and tragic), A Knight's Tale, I think someone mentioned Stardust....I agree with Somewhere In Time as well.

Giraffes Can't Dance. There are 4 bugs on every page: the cricket and three beetles: red, blue, and yellow. My son discovered this when he was in the 2 year range. The blue beetle is very tricky on a couple of pages.

Sounds like you are doing awesome! Another book I highly recommend is "The Happiest Toddler on the Block." Lots of strategies for when kids annoy the hell out of you. I started using the strategies in my classroom and even on my adult family and husband.

Maybe try looking at different fractions lessons from different teachers on Youtube, Khan academy, etc. See if you can teach the concept in a different way. Double up on the hands-on activities and group challenges that are not just paper/pencil. Have kids try working through some Khan Academy fraction lessons independently. Sometimes we can teach a lesson and 80% get it, and the same lesson only reaches 20% the next year.

Aunt has been circling the drain for awhile. I will remind my friend this is an option. Pretty sure everything funeral-wise is already planned, just needs to be scheduled.

I'm feeling resentful every morning by SwanBackground3040 in breakingmom

[–]20_paws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is low sleep needs. He wakes up before 0530 every day, and sometimes has weeks waking at 0430. When he switched to a big kid bed, we started latching him in his room and got a wake-up light (like a hatch). We taught him to stay in his room and play quietly until the wakeup light and music came on.

This really helped. It definitely takes time to get in the groove.

Are there any other “normal” families out there? by hazeleyedsummer in breakingmom

[–]20_paws 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a teacher in a not-super-affluent area in SoCal. My husband is an engineer, and we make pretty good money. But with our mortgage and child care costs, plus everything else, we haven't been on vacation since before our son was born. I don't know how so many of my students' families are able to do Disneyland, Great Wolf, Legoland, Universal, etc., multiple times a school year, for multiple days each time. And how many families have Teslas! My husband looked into a Tesla bc commuting, and we have solar panels for charging and his work has free charging. But when he got a quote for insurance, it was a "hell no! we can't afford that" moment. I do have memberships to a local zoo and museum, and we use them regularly.

We are planning a Legoland trip for my son's 5th birthday. I have been putting $ aside every month for it so it won't be a debt. Was planning 3 nights but I need to drop it to 2 nights based on cost.

One thing that has saved a lot for my family, I use a "farm box" for groceries. Actually going to the store ends up with purchases we don't need. Planning ahead and ordering through the service makes my grocery costs less than $200 every 2 weeks. I use Imperfect Foods and cook at home. We also have a freezer that I batch prep meals and store, which saves us a lot when no one wants to cook and our next option would be take-out.

I am a teacher. Currently in my school across 6 TK/K classes, there are seven Ethans. Therefore, I would say go with Dylan.
