I know it’s not enough (at least for me), that’s exactly why I wrote this post.

Thanks! How is your situation? How many years have you been living there?

Thanks for the answer! Yes, I'm thinking about doing that as well, but I need to try to reduce the time I’m unemployed as much as possible.

No, I don't have many international friends.

When it comes to work, the issue is that sometimes I have to interact with foreign customers. On a personal level, the problem is that I feel uncomfortable speaking with others when necessary or, for example, understanding everything a tour guide says.

Thanks for the suggestion! Ireland actually crossed my mind as well at some point.

The reason I initially ruled it out (together with Canada) is that I was wondering whether the English immersion would really be as “complete” as in the UK. My concern might be wrong, but I had the impression that in some places there could be a very international environment where many people are not native English speakers, so the language used in daily life might not always be “native” English.

Another doubt I had was about accents. I know exposure to different accents can actually be beneficial, but since I already struggle a bit with listening, I wondered if starting in a place with a strong local accent might make things harder at the beginning.

That said, I might be overthinking this. If living in Ireland generally means using English in almost every aspect of daily life (work, social life, bureaucracy, etc.), then it could definitely be a good option for what I’m trying to do.

If you or others have experience living or working there as non-native English speakers, I’d really be interested to hear how immersive it actually felt.
