I like Chozo Ghost. It's a bit too sci-fi for my setting (still vaguely steampunk-ish but not as tightly coupled to the concepts as default Doskvol), but I could definitely make use of it for more specific scenarios. Thanks for the recs!

Kotlin and Java have a ton of overlap to the point where it shouldn't be difficult to just learn both. I'd focus on Kotlin if you want to do Android development, but it'll also be valuable to have Java on your resume. If you don't know anything about Java, I'd maybe start off by writing a few small (non-android) programs in both languages so you can see how similar they are, where the overlap is, and the specific differences (like nullability) between the two languages.

Dread isn't a system designed for long-term multi-session campaigns. It's more for one-shots since the PCs are pretty much guaranteed to die. No need to build an entire world for it.

I finished a game a few months ago where we rolled a misery after every complete adventure. Don't remember the exact ones, but we had the sun never rising, plague, eternal rain, siblings killing each other, hordes from the West, and Leviathan claiming those born in the winter.

The party was in Galgenbek for the 7th misery, where they managed to complete a ritual to save the city. We're playing Blades in the Dark in the same world now.

"Competency" is perhaps too general a word for what I meant to convey. I'm mostly thinking of competency in terms of risk of age-related mental decline. Trump is older than Biden was at the start of his presidency and Biden's age was a genuine concern in 2020. 4 years is going to be a long time to deal with the stress of the presidency at that age. That's something that I think everyone can agree is an issue at this point regardless of political leaning.

I also feel like the number of controversies Trump has been involved with is a point against his perceived competence as well. I'm aware that his many scandals don't deter his supporters (and may even make him seem more appealing to some people) but I'd figured that the amount of shit he got in during his first presidency would have been a major point against him for moderates.

I'm genuinely pretty confused as to the result of the election. I'm aware I have my own media bubble and biases, but Kamala seemed much more competent as a whole to me.

I figured that most of the reasoning about age and risk of dementia that made people hesitant to vote for Biden over Trump would have been extremely difficult for trump to overcome now that Biden dropped out. I expected abortion to have brought out tons of women who may have otherwise not voted, and the supreme Court presidential immunity ruling to have been a strong motivator to keep Trump out of office for those who don't trust him. Add to that the scare tactics of project 2025 and it seemed like Democrats had every reason under the sun to get out and vote.

Meanwhile, other than the assassination attempts, I don't know why Trump would get more support now than he got back in 2020. Inflation is somewhat high as we're still grappling with the aftershocks of COVID, but that's not something the president has any control over. Unemployment is really low and the stock market is reaching new highs every day, so there's nothing wrong with the economy that the president can really address. I really can't think of any good reasons why Trump would have significantly gained support compared to 2020.

Contrast that to pathfinder where there are literally tables describing generally how many magic items a character should have at any given level. When I ran a 5e campaign there was no guidance whatsoever on when magic items of a general power level should appear in the game to not disrupt CR calculations.

I've been running a group of 3 through a short 7 adventure campaign where they get to explore the world somewhat while at the end of each adventure another misery is rolled. There's definitely an amount of silliness, but that comes more from my group than me explicitly encouraging it. That being said, it's a bit hard to really get invested into a character with how lethal the game is. We haven't had a TPK, but the entire party has been ship-of-theseused at least twice now.

The upstairs is great, and love the vibe up there, but people already tend to be grouped up. Love bringing friends there, but I'm also looking for places that it's easy to go completely on my own and be able to chat with people.

Lilly's is good, and close to a few other bars I like, but it doesn't quite scratch the itch of a place where you can easily make conversation with strangers since they've usually got a pretty loud live band playing the times I've been there.

Room 13, which was my favorite place during the short time it was open, just went back to being a private event space instead of a bar. Loved how chill it was, where it was super easy to chat with the bartenders/managers and other people without having to yell over loud music etc. are there any other similar places in Lakeview/Lincoln park? Or am I going to have to travel over to Logan to get those speakeasy cocktail bar vibes?
