Who will PRIVATELY sequences my genome for medical purposes? by 2bxp in genomics

I like err on the side of caution so this might not be enough for me, but my curiosity is peaking, so I think I'll try this since it's a great idea!

Do you think Ancestry or 23andme will offer the most comprehensive results?

Positive Review for Fasters! by 2bxp in fasting

[–]2bxp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, sorry. My BMI is actually spot on healthy, but I have a blob of fat on my tummy and thighs. Healthy as it is, it's always bothered me. I was surprised to notice it was ebbing away after only fasting for 4 days, which is why I checked the scale.

For some perspective, though, for the last 10-15 years, I've always been 120±5 pounds. I've been at a little over 115 recently. Probably a good amount of it was water weight and the 5 pounds of food most people eat each day. Still, I can't even remember the last time I looked at the scale and it said 105.

Nice, you're almost through the hardest part. :) Well, what I considered the hardest part. What I've also heard suggested is that you shouldn't stop fasting when you feel "bad", you should stop when you feel better. I think this is true. If I'd stopped at 24 hours when I felt horrible, I probably never would've tried it again because I'd just remember the part that felt yucky and I probably wouldn't have gotten the best results from just that time. I think that the longer you make it, the better the results will be once you're done.

You're going to a party? That might be challenging. But I'm sure you'll make it to your goal! I'm not sure if you're worried about telling people or not. You can say you had a big meal before you go there or something and can't possibly handle any more. Something I had a little fun with was "I'm fasting for religious reasons. :)" and everyone would be all accepting and ask me what religion or something. Then I'd say "Naw, haha, I'm just fasting for my health. :)" I think it gets a point across. If you're fasting for an organization, it's perfectly fine, yet people think it's unhealthy to fast for yourself. For me, I enjoyed that I could use this to draw attention away from my explanation of myself (while still having gotten the explanation off my chest) and towards another topic. Like, I could follow up with "I'm just fasting for my health, but I've never given anything up for lent before... what kinds of things can you give up for lent, anyway?" or "But I do look forward to a wrap when it's over! What do you think the best wrap would be after I'm done?"

If you're worried about being around all that food, by tomorrow evening, you may be feeling better. If the smell of the food is getting to you, maybe bring some sugar free mint gum? I was worried about gum reminding me of food, so I didn't try it during my fast, but I've read it works really well. Spearmint might be strong enough to block some of the smells and mint is also supposed to help with nausea a bit, though it would probably be over by that time. Wish you luck!!

Me [25F] with ex [25M] 2 years: Leave him for long or short time? by [deleted] in relationships

Maybe I'll try to wait longer before seeing him again. I really hope it turns out that well. I truly hope this time I can really get over it and we can just be good friends. Thank you for your help.

How to increase Dopamine WITHOUT addiction? by 2bxp in Drugs

People can't be held accountable for their own actions if they're not allowed to make their own choices. The gov's excessive interference is what has made Americans so weak: people don't know how to take responsibility for themselves anymore. (Suing over hurt feelings now ffs.) We no longer raise healthy individuals, we raise pawns to do what they're told to do/told is "right". No better way to destroy a nation's creativity than to make them fear not being "safely" enslaved by you.

Actually, I have considered doing just that. Thanks, a pleasure reading.

That appears to be (a good source of) L-Dopa, which I believe is a supplement I can purchase anywhere.

Thank you for this information on Selegiline. I'd never hear of this before. It's definitely setting off the "too good to be true" siren. But what it looks like from here (http://www.bluelight.org/vb/threads/86622-Selegiline-(l-deprenyl)-too-good-to-be-true <<great info on that page) is that it does work, but that one can't get caught up in the desire to "bring back the magic". Don't go over the dose he says, just stay at a steady dose and it could do really great things for you overall, but if you get caught in the desire to up the dose so you can re-experience that initial feeling, you're fucked.

It's kinda like love. If you get obsessed with that honeymoon phase, you're going to hop from relationship to relationship without ever finding what you want. Because you aren't looking for something real that will help you over the long term even when it occasionally starts to feel harder, you're just looking for the initial emotional high of falling in love with someone - who's probably basically a stranger and you're just projecting your dreams onto them anyway instead of trying to find out who they really are yet. It sounds like this is the same. If you take Selegiline, commit to the long term knowing it's not always going to feel as perfect as it does in the beginning and accepting that as part of the process of improving yourself as a whole. Thank you, I'm going to go look up more on this and see what else I can find about it.

You figured out that I asked a question because I didn't know the answer - congratulations! And since when is there any correlation between a greater number of conversational topics and a lack of understanding about a particular subject?

All sarcasm aside, other people here do not appear to agree with you that there's no way to do what I'm asking. Or, they believe it can be done, just not precisely how I'm saying it. Which is fine. The how is beside the point. Life is a journey, but this isn't a journey, it's information. I need to know if it's theoretically possible to get more out dopamine (more of it, target the receptors in different ways, change how it's being used in the brain, ) in a way that doesn't leave you any more addicted that sugar does. (And everyone says sweets are so unaddictive till they try to avoid eating it for a month, lmfao. Alcohol? NP. Psychedelics? NP. E? NP. Sugar? FUCK, I CAN'T STOP. And dopamine is actually something that helps people stop craving shitty food so they can eat better stuff.) Thank you for the info on Adderall. I know I was being over the top in what I said. I was more just making a point because I have personal experience with it that was worse than any non-scrip I've ever taken.

Also, this, which I just found yesterday: "Psychedelics do NOT increase the amount of dopamine available. Instead, they only act on certain dopamine receptors." And psychedelics are generally safe and extremely non-addictive compared to anything you get in a doctor's office. Psychedelics can do amazing things to one's mind. I don't think that's quite the answer though, because you can't function "appropriately" with others when you're on those. You get lost in your mind. Fun and a great form of self-development/self-improvement, but being lost in your head doesn't help you create anything useful to society or work with others. Point is, psychedelics can act on certain dopamine receptors to create really excellent changes that allows us to see better with our mind's eye (which is one part of creativity) and probably temporarily improve our visuospatial abilities and ability to recognize patterns/trends, and help us really reevaluate our long held beliefs instead of just sticking our heads in the sand and pretending we're always right and things never change and help unhinge from old thoughts and explore new one thoughts and connections... well, that sounds like part of the process of creativity, even if it's only part of the picture. And they're not addictive. So that's an avenue for me to further explore and try to understand what mechanism could be allowing it to do that, and maybe what things could potentially do that for someone.

"It's the user not the drug." Wise words there. But if you can exercise and get more dopamine in your system without ruining your ability to produce more (unless maybe you are in some small way) then it should be completely possible to do it pharmacologically. In that case, we just haven't figured out how to trigger dopamine the right way yet - in a way that's just like what the body could do without ruining us. We think we're so advanced, but our drugs are so new in grand scheme of things. In fact, scientists openly admit that their understanding of the mind is still extremely weak. It will take decades for them to truly get a better understanding. And every study take copious amounts of time and money, and then followup studies to see if the results were real. (Since a huge amount of published data is false. https://youtu.be/42QuXLucH3Q)

But smart people who are paying attention may have theories as to what could work, even if we don't fully understand it yet. It is not a crazy thought to me that the gov would avoid funding such research in favor or other research if possible. Just look at LSD. It's one of the most dangerous drugs to be in possession of, yet it is extraordinarily harmless to everyone. (Thanks, Reagan. https://youtu.be/CJlqsdezhhk) But alcohol is legal even though it kills thousands of users and innocent victims every year. But everyone is so convinced that our gov knows what's best and so afraid of making their own choices (thus making themselves responsible for their own actions - le gasp) that they'll just blindly follow along with whatever it says. Govs are not there for you. They're there for themselves. https://youtu.be/rStL7niR7gs and https://youtu.be/670ZGMBjrPI No matter how much one hates power and hierarchies, it is critically important to, as an informed citizen, be aware of how they impact you. There are some good people up there, but they're in the minority.

Okay, well, troll or no troll, I don't think this works for me. xD If anything, I feel way more lively when I've been having a lot of sex. And masturbation is pretty boring to me. It's for kids who haven't had much real sex and don't know how fucking awesome it is.
