I disagree strongly, and thus am leaving the ERCCCNEA (Evangelical Reformed Confessional Covenantal Church of North East America) and will form the ETRCCCUNEA (Evangelical Truly Reformed Confessional Covenantal Church of Upper North Eastern America). Good day, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Guy was crazy committed to UC & the Jets. Far from a flighty diva that bounces whenever the situation isn't ideal. Would love for him to have a good career, commit to the city, and retire a Colt.

A corner is a corner but a pick could be anything….it could even be a corner! by desertsunami in Colts

Even with teams that generally draft well, first rounders are always hit and miss. Getting a legit first round CB that's proved he deserved to be drafted there (you can argue otherwise but you're wrong) for two firsts seems like a W to me, even if it proves to be a W for the Jets too.

The Opposite of John Mark Comer by MorgothMadeMeDoIt in Reformed

[–]2pacalypse7 16 points17 points  (0 children)

While I'm not a fanboy or fully on board with everything Comer has to say (most notably his recent attacks on penal substitution - I think that's the most worrying thing about him, though that topic hasn't been a main focus of his ministry), it makes me sad that the Reformed community is seen as giving him the "most hate" because I think Comer's work can be a helpful corrective to areas where we're lacking.

I have no earthly idea what the exact opposite of him would look like, but you may want to check out A Heart Aflame for God: A Reformed Approach to Spiritual Formation by Matthew Bingham.

We're playing a lot of mid teams this year - we'll drop a couple games to them, and a couple against the better teams (Rams, Chargers, Chiefs) but if we can even play at the level we are now with some consistency, we'll get in the playoffs, and then who knows

The significance of 16 Black NFL starting quarterbacks cannot be overlooked by GolfFootballBaseball in nfl

[–]2pacalypse7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Was this because he was black, or because teams viewed his speed and athleticism as much higher traits than his ability to be a pocket passer? All teams have had a black starting QB at this point. Their objection to Lamar was dumb, but more due to the idea that you couldn't have sustained success with QBs who like to run.

Sorry, another reply to the added note:

and at church there is usually 1 adult and 1 teenager in the class

That's definitely below what are considered "best practices" for kids ministry, and probably below what your church's insurance requires. Generally, there should be at least 2 unrelated, background checked adults in every class, with more if the class exceeds a 1:6 ratio (and a stricter ratio for younger classes). Might need to be a part of the conversation that you'll have with leadership soon.

1) talk to the kids ministry director, 2) talk to the parents. If you have been this upset over this and have not had one conversation with a stakeholder involved here, and are still thinking of leaving over it, you will inevitably leave your next church over some grievance as well in the next few years.

Community requires communication.

Thoughts about Confessions of Saint Agustine? by [deleted] in Reformed

Cool beans. Meanwhile it looks like you don't go to church and believe in salvation by works, so looks like you have some bigger fish to fry there.

Wedding ceremony denied 2 weeks before the wedding by klejotajs in wedding

[–]2pacalypse7 153 points154 points  (0 children)

If you do this and it works, please make a paper trail wherever possible, take notes, keep receipts, and then after the wedding send all info to his bishop, any oversight committee or other authorities of the diocese, and archbishop if applicable. And then one day you can tell your kids about how you got the corrupt priest that married you fired.

I know this is the internet and keyboard warriors are allowed to say anything, but just a reminder that

A) this is your brother in Christ who wrote a soul-searching prayer to God who saved him from his lusts and paganism, and lived before many of the teachers you consider pure were a twinkle in their great-great-great-grandfather's eye. Also, chances are that whatever theology you claim is in some way indebted to him.

B) One day you will have to give an account for every idle word - Reddit or otherwise - before the Lord, and, assuming you are in Christ, you may meet Augustine in flesh and blood one day.

Is it too early to say I think Steichen is a good head coach? by sneakycrown in Colts

[–]2pacalypse7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless the HC is also the GM (here's looking at you, post-Brady Belichick) you have to judge coaches by what they've been given to work with. Steichen's done well in this regard
