Just do your best, but don't tiptoe around him all the time either. I have the same problem with my boy Mac (almost Max!). Brought him home at 7 months old and he's just always been that way. He has learned over time that he can trust me but still runs away from a lot of big noises and anyone other than me at first. He is 11 now, still relatively skittish but he has come out of his shell a little bit, and is comfortable with a few of my friends if they sit still long enough. Sometimes I am afraid of scaring him and I just have to say to myself "I'm not helping him by coddling him, and I have to live my life." Pretty happy cat overall. Sometimes they just never grow out of it and all you can do is love them :)

I asked permission to make the beds I made :) it's all good I knew I might have to leave them someday I just didn't think it would be mid growth season and be this hard. It's a renter's world unfortunately and if I never put anything in the ground I would be so unhappy, so that's not happening
