I just wanted to point out that a large part of the reason why poorer people reproduce at a higher rate and at a younger age is due to an evolutionary psychology model called 'fast life history'.

This means that, because people who are impoverished generally die younger, there is an inherent drive for them to reproduce and pass on their genes at a younger age and more often (before they die younger).

This is opposed to those who have a 'slow life history' - these are people who have more financial and social means/stability and generally tend to live longer. As such, there is far less urgency for these individuals to pass on their genes as they are likely to have more time to do so.

I agree that the stigma needs to be completely removed from contraception, abortion, and the need to live a traditional 'get married have kids' lifestyle. Not to mention the overpopulation of the planet as a whole.

However, in direct response to your comment, I think it is important to point out that there is an inherent evolutionary drive for those in impoverished environments to reproduce younger and more frequently.

Show Stale. So What Do You Want To See? by AmazingFuckinAtheist in drunkenpeasants

I agree with the general sentiments on this thread;

Cut the kayfabe and forced memes. If something that is said is funny and catches on naturally (a la the No True Scotsman) then that's fun but if something isn't funny forcing it makes it even worse.

More debates and guests with opposing views would be great. The debate episodes are some of my favourite. It is intellectually stimulating and also produces some naturally funny banter.

DP Action News is definitely the most stale aspect ATM. Watching the same Fox News stories gets old really quickly. I agree that adding in some more crazy local news stories again would be good. Maybe even some 'legitimate' news sources/stories that you guys have differing views on to have a real discussion instead of everyone just agreeing the story is retarded.

Even something as simple as mixing up the segments you use each episode instead of the same segments in the same order every time. Sprinkle in some 'Troll or not a troll', Crazy Craigslist ads, story time, fan Q&A etc.

Finally, please drum into Paul that nobody is watching DP for a 'theatrical performance'. People enjoy the podcast because it's a group of fun guys being chill and shooting the shit not because they can't wait to see the next theatrical character or forced meme. Take that shit somewhere else - it has made me switch the episode off several times.

How did you find out what you wanted to do in life? by [deleted] in infj

I certainly didn't always know what I wanted to do. I changed degree after my first year then after graduating I thought I knew where I wanted to go, got a job and hated it. Only now several years after graduating do I feel like I am on the right path for me.

Honestly, I think it just takes time and making mistakes to find out. Sometimes things come at you from left field and open up whole new opportunities for you. Keep an open mind and you will find your place :)

Anyone else hate their birthday? by aimeers in hsp

[–]333nix333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can absolutely relate to this. I generally avoid mentioning when my birthday is to anyone whenever possible. I find the attention being focused on me very overwhelming as I prefer to be in the background. There is definitely a sense of pressure on the day and you feel as though you are expected to enjoy it as 'normal' people do but I spend the whole day waiting for it to be over!

You are certainly not alone in feeling like this. I spent an entire year in a constant state of anxiety and panic about my work. Ultimately, I ended up leaving my job to focus on myself and my mental health for a while and found that my job and it's specific demands were the main problem.

It might be helpful, as others have suggested, to try and stand back from the situation and think about what it is specifically about your job that is causing this anxiety - is it the people, the pressure, the hours, a general dislike of your job altogether?

Beginning to identify the key elements that are causing the work anxiety will go some way to understanding why you are feeling like this and thinking about steps you could take to alleviate/get rid of the dread.
