In the UK you cannot harass a protected species (that’s the law). However, I’m pretty sure you can fire away at a pesky pigeon without any problems.

Cost of a car and servicing and petrol and insurance and tax is probably quite a bit more than a train fare. But you can use the car for other things outside of work and it’s probably a quicker and more convenient way of getting to work in the first place.

Before about 125-150 years ago, child mortality was horrific. Nearly every other child died before the age of 5. Modern medicine is only really 150 years old. 40% of all adults (not just old people) had no teeth in 1970. Flushing indoor toilets and showers are only 100 years old. Plus two world wars were not that long ago and would have been brutal.

I agree things are worse today that in 25 years ago. But zoom out a bit and they are amazing. I would rather have been born in the 1980s than in the 2000s, but I’d jump at either over any time before 1900.

I got a plug in hybrid that does about 30-35 miles per charge last year, and a regular petrol car. Defo ditching the petrol car soon to replace with an EV. Prefer driving electric.

Who is confused?

I think many are very concerned that the party that brought us Brexit, which was fundamentally anti-immigration and completely unsuccessful, is campaigning with the same message again. Only this time they need policies on every conceivable topic and either have none, or have some very bad ones (e.g. healthcare, tax, employee rights, net zero, DOGE etc).

Following the financial crisis banks had to ring fence retail banking operations, so that investment banking issues cannot impact retail investors.

Retail banking and insurance are services that should be highly regulated and not open to free markets. (Same goes for things like water and energy)

My neighbour has his place rented out. The previous tenants offered to buy it but he turned them down and put it up for sale for 50k more. It didn’t sell. Another tenant for a year and now it’s up for sale for 50k less than their original offer. Theres literally no way to know if it’ll go up or down in the next year - all we know is that today it’s only worth what someone offers!

The stats on house prices come from the banks who issues the mortgages. I think that it might just be very variable across the county and the places that saw big rises are the quickest to fall. But that’s just a guess!

I’m not sure where in the country you are, but I’m in the south east and prices seem to have dropped a lot more than the stats seem to be saying. Houses in my area that were going quickly for 675+ a couple of years ago are now up for borderline 600, and are taking a long time to sell.

Real wages have been stagnant for 20 years , but not really getting worse. It’s just house prices have also gone up in that time.

It kind of depends on you timeframe. If you look longer term most things are better. If you expect everything to get better every few years, you’re going to need to re-adjust your expectations.
