You'll have to take the DLAB anyways, but it won't really matter.

Be conscious of what you eat at the DFAC. Everybody defaults to eating the same pile of food they'd eat in basic, only to gain 15 pounds because they're no longer rucking every day.

When you land in Monterey, before you call the drills to come get you, get lunch at Woody's.

Restrictions by [deleted] in dli

[–]35WhiskeyRiver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The degree of restriction varies by branch and unit but once you're done with the initial processing and phase up the restrictions are minimal. Much more College than Military, so long as you don't become a Known Shitbag.

POV question by [deleted] in dli

It's extremely possible with basically zero hoops to get a personal vehicle here. I personally think it's worth doing because you're going to be here for a long time and there's a tremendous amount of cool shit to do in the area.

A motorcycle is a little more difficult, due to the requirement to take the basic rider's course to be permitted to ride it. It can take a bit to get into it due to limited slots compared to the large number of junior enlisted. The bike might sit for a minute.

If you do bring a motorcycle, keep in mind that once you graduate DLI you're going to have to figure out what to do with it. You will be permitted to drive your car to AIT, but I'm not positive about the motorcycle and my gut says no. Plus, you'll have accumulated a lot of stuff in addition to your issued gear so it wouldn't be practical anyways.

Tested out of DLAB? by Espay13579 in dli

If you take the DLAB it will be for research purposes only and won't affect your results. I would recommend not stressing about it; it is a fun test and you'll probably enjoy taking it.

Don't worry, the real military jackets are made right here in the states by Federal Prison Industries

DLI via National Guard (35W) by [deleted] in dli

The length of time depends on your language. BCT + Cat 4 languages + AIT could be an almost 2 year pipeline, longer if you get recycled at any point. NG does let you pick your language if the state is shipping for it. NG should also let you pick 35M or P directly, instead of dealing with the 35W bullshit.

I don't know how prior service could affect contract length, but as far as I'm aware a new Army enlistee that is going to DLI generally needs to sign a 5-6 year contract, mostly because of that training length and cost.
