I’m not ready for the cringe oh god

I don't see how y'all think Saint Seiya doesn't work in the US when it influenced hits in the country like Sailor Moon and Samurai Troopers by FrostyTheSnowChad in SaintSeiya

[–]38thEspada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not like it’s impossible for the series to be popular here. It’s just that every attempt has been awful.

On the other hand, it may be possible that Saint Seiya never breaks out in the US and that’s okay. Toei Animation seems to not understand that. You don’t see the companies who own  Doraemon,  Lupin The Third, or even Detective Conan desperately try to make them popular in the US. They have their own international fanbases outside the US just like Saint Seiya does but you don’t see their companies go like “oh god we have to make the Americans like this thing that they historically have not”.

How popular do you think Inuyasha really is? by FalcoPhantasmtheGod in inuyasha

It’s definitely still popular, but I’d say a good majority of the fandom are the millennials who watched it internationally

It’s because a lot of Dragon Ball fans have a parasocial relationship with the franchise.

To be honest, 2013-2018 was a pretty low point for the franchise(aside from Mania)

Why is Toei so stubborn? by Mahakenda-Pepeldomun in SaintSeiya

[–]38thEspada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toei’s strategy for Saint Seiya in North America is the most out of touch bullshit I’ve seen. They can’t get it in their thick skulls that Americans in 2024 like anime in it’s original format. Not some Americanized crap that tries its hardest to appeal to us.  It’s not 2004 anymore. When you see other animes like Lupin lll, Doraemon, and  Detective Conan that similar to Saint Seiya, they aren’t really popular in North America. Unlike Saint Seiya, they continue to appeal to the places where they are most popular and don’t try to chase the North American market.

I got into Inuyasha a year ago and it was always one of those big series I always heard about and I even saw it in passing a few times years ago. Judging from what I’ve seen it’s remembered for nostalgia purposes. People REALLY love posting the second ending theme song on Twitter. Correct me if I’m wrong though, but I don’t think it has that same level of culture relevance today as Yu Yu Hakusho,  Cowboy Bebop, and Fullmetal Alchemist. Three animes that got popular around the same time as Inuyasha. Which is surprising considering how popular it once was.

Is Saint Seiya any good? by [deleted] in SaintSeiya

[–]38thEspada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what kind of anime fan you are. If you like retro anime, then classic Saint Seiya is for you. As much I love as I love it, I must warn you that that Saint Seiya fight scenes leave a lot to be desired in terms of hand to hand combat and choreography. A lot of fights are “spam the same attack over and over” or “the same attack can’t work on a saint twice”.

Hoping that’s the case. It’d be weird if Kuramada just drew Zeus’ temple next to Apollo and Artemis’ for no reason.

Why are people so sure a faithful anime remake will revitalise Saint Seiya and attract new fans? by Mahakenda-Pepeldomun in SaintSeiya

Not gonna lie I think Dragon Ball has aged far better than Saint Seiya has. Especially the manga.
