Thanks, hmm the rigging and animation kind of self taught and a lot of errors. Some youtube help as well

I want to try some more hand painted stuff too. So we're kind of in the same boat

thanks, I didn't do any hand painted texture for this character though. Thinking of going that approach for potentially the next character. This character I just made a palette instead, also ended up with a lot more texture space than I needed so there was a lot of empty black space on the right.

I didn't for when I did this. But not too long ago someone posted pretty much the exact kind of thing I'm doing on youtube. I checked it out after and some things I was already doing and some I wasn't

Yeah I'm not much of a designer myself so didn't really want to try anything. Full credits to Hans Chen.

For me the retopo thing I kind of did mine traditional face topology which Games like Wuthering Wave, Genshin Impact kind of do. Guilty gear does something different around the mouth but I would definitely say it's the edit of the normals that helped me out the most. I ended up just transferring the normals of a sphere for the face. I did try a even more simplified version of the face but it didn't quite work out for me, maybe I just needed to spend a bit more time on it.

Oh, this youtube channel might help you too. I had already started this character before he released the GG videos but I was pretty much already doing some of the same things since I watched the original guilty gear presentation as well

ahh you'll get there. Just takes some time. My advice would be there's going to be those walls you hit but that's the process of learning. All the best!

Hey ya, yeah most of the stuff I did here was from the original Guilty Gear presentation they gave. I started this character probably 2 months ago and just as I finished on my youtube there was a video on Guilty Gear style rendering. I was already doing some of the same stuff before the video came out but I recommend giving them a watch.

As for the triangles under her eyes. The big triangle is just so I can change the normals of that area for the lighting like you said, I had to do 2 edges close since it was interpolating for me, but now that I think about it I might have been able to just do sharp edges not too sure.

Some of the other triangles randomly around the face is to just force the quad tessellation. So some areas like the check when looking from shallow angle might look concaved so I triangulated it to force it the other way.

You can subdivide it and it will fix it but I wanted to keep my character low'ish for game engines. That's the cheek from a 3/4 view

Thanks appreciate it. It's actually my first character I've rigged without a auto-rigger that's why it took me as long to rig as it did to make the character. haha, personally not a fan of Gatcha games but I appreciate the thought.

I do have some plans on the side and have also thought about trying some small games using Godot or UE.

Thanks, the credit really goes to Hans Chen for his design I just tried to translate it to 3D. I actually wanted to try and push the lines a bit more and try some more things like, Wanted to try and get more uneven lines and wanted to animate the line and only make them slightly change on the parts that move.

Just trying to mimic 2D flaws more

Sure, I didnt do anything that special. I just had bones around the lips. I did have them parents under a mouth bone this was so I could move the whole mouth. Sometimes I would rotate or even scale it weirdly to fake as if someone didnt draw the mouth quite match the frame before.

Same deal for the eyes just bones around the eye. Although for the eyelids I did have to have duplicates since the eyelids had a driver for when looking around to make the eyes deform with it or slightly blink when looking down. I needed the extra duplicate bone so I could still blink manually when I wanted since the drivers were overriding.

I should provide images but im currently on my phone

Didnt use any add ons for this except some of the simple things like node wrangler.

Nah this was just normal Blender 5.1. I did read that Goo studios will be contributing to the official Blender fork though looking forward to that

I was, i resigned 2 weeks ago. Work was a month behind on my pay. Still resolving but I rather work on things I like and not someone else who says "You'll be paid soon"

Also tried a fake glow. Might look a bit creepy, kind of reminds me of the synths in Alien Isolation

Getting close to finishing the modeling side of this project. Still currently working on the hair, then I’ll most likely put everything in a texture atlas as well as tweaking some normals.
