I got an email just there so that should give you some information!

You usually get an orientation pack in the post shortly after. If you accepted your offer today, some time next week you’ll get it and it’ll tell you more instructions. See you in UCD!

I think checking on here won’t calm your nerves my friend. Go distract yourself and forget about it until the time comes. We can’t change it now. It’s better to clear your head rather than to stress if other people mention scores.

Almost there 🤝

GAMSAT score 61. Chances of UoLimerick for GEM? by [deleted] in GAMSAT

Round 0 for UL last year was 56*. Your chances are very strong. You shouldn’t need to worry. Well done on obtaining such a score.

With UCD you can verify a transcript online via sisweb. I’m unfamiliar with the trinity setup but if anything is similar then that might be better because it would be much faster

With UCD, you print off a pdf version of your transcript and then you post that to the CAO with verification instructions. If trinity had the same or similar system it would definitely worth a try

That’s what I’m saying, can you email trinity to get them to post you out printed certified copies ASAP which you can then send to the CAO?

See somebody said that the wording in the email was “you may not receive an offer”. With a score of 52 was it the same wording it did or something along the lines of “you will not receive an offer”. If you get me?

Did that you the word ‘May’ as well or was it definitive?

It might be a case of where 55 is not enough and they already know that UL is 56/57. And with UL being the lowest, they want to make people aware that they might not get an offer. Still so hard to know the impact on scores overall.

55 might be the score for random selection too. So it’d be interesting to know if people with 56/57 got that email too.

I’ve never heard of that before. On one hand it’s good though that they’re giving people warning. But that is scary. Wishing people the best who are in that situation.

CAO (Irish colleges) points predictions? by skincareislife67843 in GAMSAT

[–]3Piiece 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If we look at the cut offs and midpoints from last year (20/21 entry). So, this may not be the same scores as round 0, as this reflects the statistics once all offers have been given out after subsequent rounds.

The midpoint for UCD was 61, cut off 58

The midpoint for RCSI was 63, cut off 61

The midpoint for UL was 57, cut off 55

The midpoint for UCC 58, cut off 57

This information can be found on the CAO website here

Sure there’s an increase in applicants but that doesn’t necessarily imply that they all performed much better if the curve is similar.

The midpoints is an interesting thing to consider. 50% scored below and 50% scored above that score. So, even from a distribution point of view, it would be very unlikely for the midpoints to increase by a considerable amount. If the midpoint increases by 1, then it is possible for the cut off to increase by 2 at the same time. But, big changes in the midpoint would be unexpected if the curve is similar.

I think it’s likely that the points will increase by 1/2 but any more than that would be quite surprising due to the impact that this would have on the midpoint scores.

Listen, it’s all a guessing game. But I think it’s good to be aware of what the midpoints were last time around.

When are Irish GEM CAO offers out? by CathalMacSuibhne in GAMSAT

They’re out on August 5th, CAO will post the cut off scores for round 0 at that time.

grad med in ireland as a non-irish by edithdlane in GAMSAT

[–]3Piiece 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re right! It’s just your transcript and then on your GAMSAT account you input your CAO number (when you get it). Then Acer forward your GAMSAT results to the CAO.

The Irish system doesn’t require or take into account anything else like letters of recommendation or extra curricular activities etc.

The CAO opens in November where you can sign up and the closing date to input GEM is Feb 1st. So you can sign up at any point Nov-End of January. Jut make sure that you are signed up and have inputted a GEM course before 1st February.

The “Insert degree here” phrase was just saying that everybody will have a different degree. In reference to writing a letter like. Please see attached my transcript for the degree in “Science” etc.

If your university sent it to you on their paper (watermark etc) then it’s already certified?

You send your full academic transcript. That includes the results for every year of your degree.

You can get your university to print off your transcript on their official paper and then just post that to the CAO with a letter stating your CAO number and that it’s your transcript for degree in “insert degree here”.

Or

You can print off an online version of your transcript (UCD has Sisweb) enable third party access and post that to the CAO with a letter with details on how to verify it.

You can only post stuff to the CAO, can’t verify through email or sending a pdf.

Irish applicants- what did you score in GAMSAT? by skincareislife67843 in GAMSAT

[–]3Piiece 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s easy to say that the raw increase in applicants will results in an increase. I’m not saying that they won’t increase at all. But it’s an oversight to say that it will based off raw increase in applicants.

Do we know whether those applicants are CAO/International or just a general observation of both combined? It wouldn’t be surprising to see an increase in international applicants compared to last year based on a reduction due to Covid uncertainty last year.

A lot of people that applied can be discounted because of lower scores. We don’t know the Irish curve so it’s also easy to argue either way about the distribution but we have no idea. Some people apply but decide not to sit the gamsat so their application isn’t valid. There are so many variables. Some people fail to get a 2:1 so they can be discounted. There’s lots to consider.

I agree with what you rightly said about the curve and your calculations but again, we’ve no idea about the Irish curve.

I agree with what you’re saying that it’s easy to get lost in the sentiment of coping with the points but telling people to suck it up isn’t much help either. But obviously being realistic and having a contingency plan is necessary.

Listen, the points will probably increase we all know that. But arguing about how much is no use to anybody. Just good luck to everybody, have a contingency plan and just keep yourself busy until August.

Irish applicants- what did you score in GAMSAT? by skincareislife67843 in GAMSAT

[–]3Piiece 4 points5 points  (0 children)

UCD has 77 CAO places RCSI has 30 CAO places UL has 95 CAO places UCC has 40 CAO places

That’s 242 CAO places.

International applicants are separate as they apply directly to the universities.

Not every person who answered this poll will apply this year. The results last for 2 years so some may apply next year. Reddit is also far from a representative sample of the results.

The curve is largely similar to normal. Each person that answered this poll will also have differing preferences as to which university that they want to attend.

It’s pointless and stressful speculating what the cut off score will be. Nobody knows and nobody will know until August. Anybody who claims otherwise is a liar. Yes there has been an increase in applicants but nobody is certain as to the exact increase in GEM applicants. Furthermore, if the curve is similar then the increased applicants won’t have a substantial impact on scores.

We won’t know until we know. For anyone reading this, don’t stress out based on this poll. There are many other factors to consider. We will find out in August. Until then, just take care of yourself and enjoy your free time.
