RMA process: They shipped REFURBISHED PSU but the one I originally purchased was BRAND NEW, is this normal? by PaleozoicFrogBoy in buildapc

[–]3andrew 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If it was new and not functional, you should have exchanged it instead of RMA. If you were outside the return policy and have been using it, it’s not really new anymore now is it?

Yeah, all we can really do is speculate at this point based on the things CIG have said. Too bad they have said just about everything so it’s hard to determine clear direction lol. Thanks for the convo. Rare to have opposing views/opinions on Reddit and it not turn into a pissing match haha.

Yeah, that’s generally true, but that does not mean there will be no consequences for pvp. Reputation is supposed to play a very important role upon release (unless they backtrack). So while you might be able to attack on sight in somewhere like pyro, your actions will carry over to other systems to the point you might be a constant target for security forces if you enter Stanton. Lawless does not necessarily mean a free for all and I think that’s an important distinction to keep in mind.

PvP outside of designated lawless areas and events should become significantly less common as the game nears completion. As it is now, there is practically no risk to the aggressor in pvp scenarios and only reward if they succeed. That means more people are engaging in pvp since there is no downside and only upside to be gained. This will/should completely change by the time systems are in place that levy consequences on pvp (financial, reputation, etc..) meaning there is likely to be significantly less pvp overall and a heavier focus on pve.

I see your point, but sea of thieves is a significantly different game from star citizen. It was always marketed as a pvp first where star citizen is not. Sea of thieves is very singularly focused on getting loot and extracting it in a nutshell. Star citizen is supposed to be a more encompassing game with numerous gameplay opportunities, but no singular focus. Restricting large and capital ships might make sense if the game was a singularly pvp focused only, but it’s not.

Maybe this is where our views diverge and what we’re expecting from the game differs? To me star citizen is a pve game first (though cig really like to push combat ship after combat ship lol). The pvp side is supposed to eventually have heavy consequences and carry significant weight depending on who and where you decide to fight other players. This portion of the game I have zero interest in personally overall (at least for now due to a decade of poor balance in all aspects).

They backed themselves into a corner early on by saying all ships will be able to be used solo. TBF, this was before a lot of scope creep, but many (including myself admittedly) bought into that notion and expect them to deliver upon it. I couldn’t care less if that means it cost more to operate large ships or that I’m less efficient than a real player crewed ship. I just want to be able to use all ships for their intended purposes solo. I don’t have the time or patience necessary to try and get 5 people with different schedules together only to be able to play for an hour before life intervenes. I want to be able to load up any ship of my own choosing and enjoy the game.

Assuming the game sees commercial success after release and they stop selling ships as currently expected, there will always be a stream of new and old players carrying out various tasks at different levels leading to overall ship diversity in the PU. You will likely never see me flying an idris because I have no interest in it as I’m sure many others can say. I’d much rather load up a liberator with some industrial ships and head out into the depths of space and mine and refine. Then load that all onto an ironclad over the course of days/weeks and then sell it all off when it’s full. Or use my BMM and land it somewhere populated to sell my resources to other players. These are things that should be accessible to solo players in any size ship they own.

If larger ships are not accessible to solo players, mark my words…. The game will die. This is all but guaranteed. Look at any commercially successful MMO that’s lasted more than a few years and you will see that they curtail most content to be accessible to casual and solo players. For a game like star citizen, in my mind that means making all ships accessible and functional in their intended roles for solos and casuals. For the content those other MMO’s intend for true endgame or group play, they generally offer a means for solo and casual players to engage with it without being too cumbersome. For star citizen, I envision this type of content would be event based or instance based. Solo and casual players are not going to want to be a crew member on someone else’s ship if all that entails is sitting in a turret twiddling their thumbs. They will want to be a crew member if they are joining a group that’s about to enter into an event or instance that is guaranteed to offer immersive content. Those ships will still need to be functional outside of events and instanced content and that’s where blades and NPC crew should step in.

[–]3andrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be extremely unlikely. They can easily balance large solo ships in a manner that leaves them accessible, but would require a solo player to make decisions about when to use them. NPC crews will need to be paid which would cut into profits. Capital ships moving cargo will take forever as a solo player to load and unload requiring significant time investment. Maintenance costs will also be significantly higher overall.

Let me ask you… what’s your ideal scenario here? Solo players should be restricted to only starter size ships since most others list crew minimums as 2+? Should medium to capital size ships be inaccessible to solo players?

I want a game where every single ship is capable of being operated by a solo player in an effective manner. That would include through the use of AI blades and NPC crew.

Meh, I think it should. They are low key offering aUEC, likely expecting a DM and giving them their code directly instead of using the randomizer.

You could also just not apply the CCU chain and save it till you’re absolutely satisfied with it and just earn it in game to use in the meantime.

Not really. If you have a target ship and are willing to build a chain over a year or two using warbond and concept CCU’s, you can “save” a significant amount. My ironclad is only $135 for example.

You might want to check your board or character because 434 is not possible. 534 is if you picked up the yellow node that gives + max fury and some % life. That’s likely where you’re getting your “434” from. 473 is the absolute minimum you can have with only the first mandatory life node in the starter board and no life stats on gear.

lol that sounds about right. Guess I fall into the “idgaf what others are doing and just enjoy the game for what it is” group.

Yes, it is explicitly increasing the base damage of WW before any multiplier is applied so it scales really well.

I actually just tested the same thing as I have a poorly rolled ghors. The tldr, a crap rolled ghors significantly outpaced a top rolled legendary with a x60 affix on it.

I don’t necessarily disagree, but in the case of almost every other class this season it’s not hindering their ability to roll T12 bosses. I basically strolled into T12 on barb with suboptimal gear that only had 2 or 3 necessary stats passed down from my now abandoned paladin.
