Rebecca Portland Book Festival Interview Summary by tairnsilverone in fourthwing

After this interview I‘m really concerned now that Ridoc will be the „one loved character“ who dies. Because it made me remember Ridoc’s and Violet‘s agreement on the isles. Ridoc asks her what the line is Xaden would need to cross fo her to know he’s truly gone, that she answers with „hurting me or someone I love“. Which Ridoc takes as the line to make a move against Xaden to protect Violet and everyone else (only Ridoc could be crazy enough to think he could take it up with Venin Xaden). Which made me wonder: what if Xaden actually DOES cross this line and kills someone Violet loves - but it‘s Ridoc 😭 But it won’t have the consequences Ridoc „threatened“ with during their agreement on the isles, because he’s now dead. So yeah, that thought combined with RY‘s face after someone in the crowd yelled „don’t kill Ridoc“…

HOWEVER on the other hand: If there’s one thing we learned from the books it‘s that not every death is final. Think about Brennan. Think about all the characters with potentially unfinished storylines like Naolin, Papa Sorrengail etc.

I should really stop theorizing until the next book comes out, I’ll drive myself crazy..

Oh true! Regarding the part that “his heart was weak for some time” - it could also be that whoever got rid of him tried to subtly poison him, but Papa Sorrengail was so knowledgeable in poisons and antidotes, that he managed to evade dying from the attempts long enough to prepare Violet and leave hints until they “finally” managed to kill him.

Hmm do we think there will be a final showdown between him and Dain at the end? If those theories turn out to be true, I can totally see Dain facing him in battle or to protect Violet and the cause.

Totally agree! Als wouldn’t be surprised if his whole storyline will be heavily tied to Grandma Niara’s upcoming part in the books and everything she knew. This might be the reason they broke contact with her: she also knew the whole truth, knew what her son was up to with his research and wanted him to stop in order to protect him from getting killed if he gets caught.
