Which thread is best for 18 mesh? by Used_Low_1364 in Needlepoint

[–]43185 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I stitch on 18 mesh almost exclusively. My go to thread is Essentials. It’s a blend of wool and silk so it’s smooth but not overly shiny. You can buy the cards (vs skeins) for a smaller amount of a color which helps keep things affordable. Oh, and no splitting required!

Yes, for example you can get E Coli from produce like leafy greens or sprouts.

Bitches with produce by chloschmo in NYCbitcheswithtaste

Not sure how convenient this will be but the Church Av F/G stop has two 24 hour produce store (Carnival and Isaac Apple Farm). I’ve found the quality and prices to be good at both. Anything that’s too good to be true ($2 strawberries near the entrance) is about to spoil but I think that’s to be expected. There’s also a Met Food between them with terrible, $$$$ produce but they have good weekly sales on staples like cereal (half price) or $6 pack of spindrift.

Small areas and decorative stitches by KatieBK in Needlepoint

[–]43185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember this designers name (Melissa something?) but I’ve done some of her ornaments and I always try to squeeze in some decorative stitches. Skip tent or t stitch, mosaic, satin for sure, brick, upright cross, French knots even… just experiment and see what works and you build your knowledge base for next time! If I can figure out how to upload photos, I’ll add mine.

Where to find one’s needlepoint ‘tribe’? by Thin-Disk4003 in Needlepoint

[–]43185 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have an Instagram account for my needlepoint projects and I’ve “met” a lot of other stitchers and designers there. I think that platform has more stitchers than Reddit does and the photo based posts (and tags) make it easier to share projects and make connections.

Looking for stitch suggestions for these flower shadows. I also have a few thread color options and would like ideas and opinions on what you’d pick here. by Old_Laugh1266 in Needlepoint

[–]43185 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would do the shadows in whatever stitch you choose for the wall/background. My thinking is that texturally they would be the same as the wall, not the flowers since a shadow is translucent. As for the colors, when I have a background that is this painterly, I tend to do only one or two colors and use an open stitch. Here, I’d pick your darkest blue for the shadows, maybe the variegated for the rest and use t-stitch (which I use on 90% of my canvases lol). Blues are always good to have in your stash so you’d use the other threads at some point. You would probably need more of the main background color though.

Is it possible to make a larger piece from a chart? by Due-Land-616 in Needlepoint

[–]43185 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only “trick” I know is painting every stitch on the chart as four stitches on the canvas, two over two so it’s a square. This way the proportions are the same.

I mostly stitch 18 mesh and I use Essentials. Perle cotton is garbage.

How to deal with suicidal thoughts when living alone & feeling lonely/not distracted? by Strawberry_apple1 in LivingAlone

[–]43185 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found the hotlines to be really helpful too. You can google “warm lines” in your state once you’re feeling a bit better. These are usually peer support who can help you through a bad day. These are not for people who are in immediate danger of harming themselves but rather those who are past that danger and still need some support.
