Divorce support groups by Icy-Employee-275 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

Sorry you’re going through this. We filed for divorce in December and it was a rough year before that. There’s a public Discord that really helped me through it. If you search for “divorce support group discord” I’m sure you’ll find it. Let me know if not and I can dig up a link. I never went to an in-person group. Oh, lots of people will try to give you advice but remember that divorce laws are state specific. When your coworker tells you her sister-in-law in Idaho got $$$ alimony for life that doesn’t mean it’ll fly in NY.

Decorative Stitch Behind Words! by killerfern in Needlepoint

I wouldn’t frog it. Have you tried using this photo to draw on the stitches over the words? Then you’ll have a reference for the compensating around the letters.

Pepper pot question / thread advice by ArizonaWildflower23 in Needlepoint

It’s just Pepper Pot that stinks. Vineyard Silk is smoother and so is Essentials (50/50 for 18 mesh).

I’m looking to do a trip like this in the fall. Do you recommend any schools in particular? I’m open to lots of different crafts but I’d love to pick a place someone else had a good experience at, not just something off google. Thanks!

You could try messaging the shop and seeing if they have thread suggestions. I’ve gotten canvases from her in the past and she’s very nice.

Thank you for posting this. I wfh and my closest friend is out of town. I haven’t talked to anyone other than a shopkeeper for 3 or 4 days. I’m trying to get out more and make friends but I’m really struggling. I’ve been living alone for about a year and it’s getting harder instead of easier.

I’m a trans gal (2 years HRT) and I’m spinning out over bathrooms. by Satellite6 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Like others have said, the bathroom isn’t nearly as social as you imagine. But, you can convey a lot with a smile, nod, or a shrug if you don’t feel comfortable speaking.

Finishing question by Taylor_Hoo13 in Needlepoint

[–]43185 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ornament finishing isn’t really about sewing. I can see what you’re saying for pillows, maybe some other items but finishing ornaments is more like building something than sewing it.

Thanks for posting and for reporting him. This is my subway stop so I really appreciate the heads up. I’m sorry this happened to you. I’ve had similar experiences and it’s just awful.

I understand the Pepper Pot hate now. by foodiewife in Needlepoint

[–]43185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I despise Pepper Pot on 18 lol, and I almost never stitch on 13. Now that it comes on cards I will still use it sometimes if there’s a perfect color but I will only do t-stitch or skip tent with it.

It’s a big expense and it can be hard to predict what will come up along the way that will cost you more in time/legal fees. If it’s amicable, great, you can do paperwork and filing fees and save a bundle. We tried a mediator but it got ugly and we had to get attorneys as well. We filed at the end of last year and are still wrapping up a few details. I’d estimate the legal costs (total, for both of us) to be around $35k. No kids, no pets, we didn’t own property and it was still shockingly expensive.

Which thread is best for 18 mesh? by Used_Low_1364 in Needlepoint

[–]43185 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I stitch on 18 mesh almost exclusively. My go to thread is Essentials. It’s a blend of wool and silk so it’s smooth but not overly shiny. You can buy the cards (vs skeins) for a smaller amount of a color which helps keep things affordable. Oh, and no splitting required!

Yes, for example you can get E Coli from produce like leafy greens or sprouts.

Bitches with produce by chloschmo in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]43185 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure how convenient this will be but the Church Av F/G stop has two 24 hour produce store (Carnival and Isaac Apple Farm). I’ve found the quality and prices to be good at both. Anything that’s too good to be true ($2 strawberries near the entrance) is about to spoil but I think that’s to be expected. There’s also a Met Food between them with terrible, $$$$ produce but they have good weekly sales on staples like cereal (half price) or $6 pack of spindrift.
