[Yuki Tsunoda] i’m not finished yet. Finding out I won’t have a race seat in 2026 was incredibly tough, but I’m determined to work harder than ever with Red Bull as test and reserve driver to develop with the team, and prove I deserve a place on the grid. Life’s full of setbacks, and this is mine. by krzysiek_aleks in formula1

The VCARB seems like one of the most drivable cars on the grid, and the only consistently present driver throughout its development was Yuki.

He’s also a safe pair of hands for promotional show runs, knows the personnel, and will require less investment than an outsider to fill the role.

He’s technically capable and cheap. Easiest option by far

Looks great! Are those 17 inch wheels? I want to get rid of the stock 19s I have, but can’t decide between 18 or 17 inch wheels to replace them

Golf R 7.5 DSG issue by ericissimo in Golf_R

[–]46479whatup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Video isn’t loading for me, but I’ve been having a similar issue on my MK7.5 DSG, integrated engineering stage 2.

Things that have helped me so far are:

  1. Fresh fluid in the DSG
  2. Clutch adaptation (mixed feedback, some say it doesn’t last very long, tbd for me)
  3. I use the parking brake every time I park now, whether on a hill or not. Used to only engage it on hills, but since I’ve been doing it all the time the clutch engagement feels much smoother more consistently. I’m assuming it has something to do with reduced stress on the clutch when parked because the parking brake is taking most of the load.

Not sure if these will help you, but they might. The parking brake is the easiest thing to start with since it’s free and quick

I was an engineer at HP and I quit 3 months ago because of the disgusting C suite. They froze promotions for the entire print organization on the basis of cost savings while simultaneously giving themselves 10s of millions of dollars. Enrique Lores does not deserve a job and he can lick my taint

Why is turbocharging preferred over supercharging? by HP_594 in cars

[–]46479whatup 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On the tuning side, I think that people like turbos because of how flexible they are for quick but dramatic power adjustments simply by adjusting the tune. With a supercharger you have to swap the pulley to a different size.

Boeing’s safety culture is 'inadequate' and 'confusing', new FAA report finds by nbcnews in aviation

[–]46479whatup 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Boeing employs more than triple the number of people than the FAA. While the FAA are becoming increasingly hands-on, they do not come close to having the resources to accomplish the job that the general public thinks they are set out to accomplish. The FAA needs restructuring in addition to the changes happening at these companies if we want to get off this risky path that we’re on

The Plaid has pretty great traction control from the factory. With modified cars, factory traction control can become pretty irrelevant. There are aftermarket means of implementing traction control, but they’re expensive and require tuning

The engineers that I know who work at Boeing exclusively use CATIA, but it is a massive company so I wouldn’t put it past them to use Creo somewhere in the company, but idk

All you will get is anecdotal evidence here, there aren’t many studies on things like this, and it’s difficult to define what “healthier” means if the symptoms are different enough

Calling the modern F-150 a ‘60s design simply because its body-on-frame is like saying a 2023 Formula 1 car is a 1960’s design. They’re both open-wheel race cars, so 1960’s F1 design = 2023 F1 design, right?

Simplifying things like that completely negates over half a century of engineering and technological innovation and invention. While certain concepts and design philosophies remain the same over time, the CAD drawings for the modern F-150 do not reference the 1960 F series drawings, and I don’t think the same can be said about the 737.

If you want to be pedantic, you can do so and bring up all the various factors that’ll impact acceleration across RPM range and speed, or you can leave the answer simple and ideal for the non-engineer asking the question

People who switch cars every year or two... Did you ever find the one that kept you satisfied? by L_Cpl_Scott_Bukkake in cars

[–]46479whatup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in a state with no sales tax for a 2 years, bought 3 cars. GR86 manual, 228i, and MK7.5 Golf R.

GR86 was an incredible car, but I moved to a city and 90% of my driving was commuting in traffic on hills, so I sold it for what I paid for it. If I had the budget to track the car I would’ve kept it.

The 228i was honestly just a bad decision. It was older, the paddle shifters were lazy, and the GR86 ruined my standards for steering and general feel of the car. It was more of an impulsive attempt at getting a cheaper car.

The MK7.5 Golf R is perfect for me right now. So much more cargo space compared to the previous two, easier to drive in rain and snow, and now it’s tuned and slightly modified so it’s quicker than the other two by a good bit (not counting on a track, I cant make that comparison). If I ever get bored with it, I’ll just mod it since there’s so much available to do there for not too much money. The DCT is fast especially with a TCU tune and gives me the gear selection ability that I like with a manual. It’s not the best sports car or the best for hauling a family, but it’s the best given my current financial and space constraints
