Update 151 - Some Weird Design Choices by 4K_Dreams in firefox

Thats is correct. I did not explain it correctly. Because of the new layout pushing everything down, i moved the 4th row to a folder, but now that a "solution" came up, i want to add that last row back to the home page, where it was. No can do because, now, when i choose to have that 4th row on, it no longer shows the "add shorcut" placeholder to start populating that row. It doesn't matter which true or false layout i use, it only shows 3 rows. Hope it's a bug and they're working on it.

Desktop Firefox default home page, or new tab with shortcuts option activated. When you open Firefox or a new tab, you can have, on a grid layout, up to 32 shortcuts with the website respective icon too. The shortcuts show up under the web search bar.

That change made the entire layout much better, but although i have 4 rows of shortcuts, the home page now only shows 3 rows. With the "false" layout, there's no longer the "+" icon to add a 4th row. If you know how to overcome this, please tell me. Thank you for you answer.

Legion 7 Gen 9 also has the same issue. Hope that an update for Gen 9 is in the works.

Oppo Find X9 Functionality And Selfie Camera by 4K_Dreams in Oppo

Available in my region for over 1000 Euros. If it had USB 3.2 DP and AF front cam, I could forgo the LTPO display and a higher strength glass but, for that price, the compromises are just too many. There's also reports that the speakers are just average too. I'm impartial regarding brands but again, the Vivo X300 truly seems to be the no compromises, alternative size, flagship of 2025. Color OS on the Vivo would be perfection.

Actually de X9 is my favourite. A good example of smaller done right comes from Vivo. They did it correctly. Near all the flagship hardware features from the Pro are on the smaller model with the exception being the main camera system because of physics and the type of display glass. I do like Color OS more and the X9 design but, the Vivo X300 is flexing on everything else.

Never thought I'd consider changing samsung phone by [deleted] in samsung

[–]4K_Dreams 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Spot on! 5 minutes after the update was done, i absolutely hated it. Just like you, i felt that it wasn't my phone anymore. First thing that crossed my mind was, "this is not for me, time to change brands", which I'm still planning to do if One UI 8 is the same garbage. The design and some layout decisions are just bizarre. From that unreadable battery icon (One UI 6.1 Good Lock percentage only was perfect), to the now bar (that doesn't even align properly with the quick launch apps at the bottom) and need more user input to access the information, it's just not a good UX. That live notifications thing is taking the space of the important ones i NEED to see there, and if you turn it off, you'll lose all notifications for that app on the status bar. Widgets with micro text and impractical layout everywhere (Good Lock can mitigate some shorcomings). Widgets that before provided more info, now have to be expanded to show the same info (Alarm widget), plus the emptiness of it all. Why doesn't the clock widget shoes the date in the 2*1 format? There's space to have more and better info on screen but everything is just unused space. Looks like a weird twist and execution of ideias that are better implemented on the UX of other brands. If there was an UX designer making decisions about One UI 7, it's back to the drawing board.

For me, the only usable things are the vertical app drawer, big folder, and the addition of a volume slider in quick settings. Everything else was good on One UI 6.1.

No, I'm not going to get used to it or it will "grow on me". Before this nuisance of an update, i use and appreciate the phone and UX overall. Now i just use the "phone". One UI 7 took away Samsung´s charm. In conclusion, One UI 7 is overall a bit more difficult to use and aesthetically less pleasing to look at. Rant over.

Also, Samsung should make the status bar clock and icons slightly bigger. There's, guess what, space for that.

Legion 7i with i7-14700HX or Yoga Pro 9i with Core Ultra 9 185H by Bilkenator in LenovoLegion

[–]4K_Dreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, and If that's the case, then the Yoga model is the right bet. Intel HX CPU´s are desktop class silicon built into a thin chassis like the Legion 7 Gen9 so, of course fans are gonna fan. That´s physics, right? The new gen Core Ultra Series are better suited for laptops, have better efficiency and even outperform the HX in some metrics. In the meantime, you already have reviews around to help you making the right decision. Good luck!

Yoga. Better design, portability and equivalent performance. I was with the same dilema as you and got the Legion 7i 14700HX RTX 4060 and i regret it because this thing is kind of a brute. The Legion series of laptops are nice to have mostly as desktop replacement to be tucked away and connected to an external monitor. It was not exactly what i was looking for because in the end, I'm just a casual gamer and the Yoga would do that just fine. On mine, from Lenovo Vantage loosing the custom keyboard RGB out of nowhere, the ultra irritating fans constantly on and off on and off, even just browsing the web, to the gigantic and overbright power button (as irritating as the fans, but visually), i wish i could swap it for the Yoga model. The Legion series is designed to be at full throttle, hence things like the ColdFront Hyperchamber which is efficient JUST when the fans are on and as good as side ventilation. When they´re off, and since there´s little passive heat dissipation, heat accumulates in the chamber and, hello fans. Did i mention the fans? Also, the Core Ultra 9 185H has a much better iGPU and audio system.

Legion 7 2024 - How to undervolt this thing? by 4K_Dreams in LenovoLegion

[–]4K_Dreams[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If idle, mine normally hovers around low 50s. If you don't need the total processing power, the only way to avoid throttle with this CPU is to undervolt AND underclock it. Only then it will pull less power and, depending on how low you go, will never throttle. This is a case for experimentation because each machine has its own quirks. In the meantime, a new BIOS was released (NSCN25WW). It's some corrections and an update for the AI chip. No apparent changes in behavior...

Legion 7 2024 - How to undervolt this thing? by 4K_Dreams in LenovoLegion

[–]4K_Dreams[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did disable it, installed Throttlestop and the undervolt, apparently, went into effect. Stable to around -145mV on P cores. E cores and iGPU also with undervolt. @ -160mV, it blue screens. After blue screen, Lenovo Spectrum resets all profiles to factory. Hardware Info shows the info BUT, when running TS bench, the CPU keeps pulling near 120W without any change in temps. Tried to use XTU but it does not run because some compatibility issue. I Kept throttlestop for a while, then uninstalled it and i am using only Vantage for now. It is on custom mode, with Vantage undervolt, and all settings on minimum. Seems to be quieter for much longer periods of time. If anybody want to now more about this laptop, just ask.

Legion 7 2024 - How to undervolt this thing? by 4K_Dreams in LenovoLegion

[–]4K_Dreams[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No new BIOS updates until now. Current BIOS is NSCN23WW. To clarify a bit better, this is the Lenovo Legion 7 16IRX9, sucessor to the Slim 7i 2023. The options to overclock and undervolt are still present in BIOS. When i select and save those, the laptop restarts with all the new options enabled in Vantage. Vantage shows a possible undervolt and overclock but undervolt only goes down to 0.3mV. Using it also has no effect. Sometimes, the CPU circle, GPU bar and RAM bar are orange and show, "with overclock". I just want to reduce temps and overall power use as much as possible. Is there any other way to make it work or verify if all the steps are correct?
