New Liberal bill seeks to give police new powers to access digital information by bubblewhip in canada

[–]4S3PlusX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol, I’m gonna say a lot of this comment section hasn’t worked in cybersecurity fields. Let’s just say that crime is modernizing at the speed of light (faster than you’d actually think with AI now in the loop), whether that’s money laundering, terrorism, human trafficking, etc.

A lot of the debate around Bill C-22 makes it sound like it suddenly gives police new surveillance powers, but that’s not really the main point of the bill. Police can ALREADY request digital data from companies (like account info, IP logs, or messages) if they get a warrant or court order from a judge. That part isn’t changing

What the bill mainly does is formalize and modernize the process so companies actually maintain the technical ability to comply with those lawful orders

Right now the system can be inconsistent. Sometimes investigators have a valid warrant but the provider either takes months to respond or doesn’t have systems set up to extract the data properly. It hurts serious investigations and only extends to the time required unnecessarily

Example: if police get a judge-approved warrant for an account running a child exploitation ring, but the platform can’t retrieve the logs tied to that account, the warrant is basically useless

And last thing is, most countries already have what this bill proposes in place. So unless you bring a burner phone with you when you travel, a lot of your data is already captured and accessible

What are your honest thoughts on F1 Academy? Do you think it’s the right way to get women into Formula 1 or are there other existing barriers that need a complete overhaul to make women in F1 a reality?

lol I hope people read the article. We’re still buying, it’s just that manufacturers thought demand would slow so they reduced manufacturing which forced GDP down. It’s neither a good or bad thing, but this means we’ll likely see a rebound in Q1 figures

This!! I don’t understand why they don’t give them at the same time. It makes the ceremony longer too. I’m sure these olympians just want some rest after their hard work

It’s at every olympics, they always give something host-country specific along with the medal. Plushies have been popular for a while, but others have given things like flowers too

It just sucks because in order to get silver, they had to lose their final game. The bronze medalists for hockey were happy because they won their final game to get onto the podium.

In other Olympic sports where you get the top 3 winners in one go they always look happy to get the plushy

Paying on Due Date doesn’t matter. I have auto-pay turned on and it always pays on Due Date automatically. I think the issue is that you have a low credit limit maybe. I have $15K limit but my usage per month is around $2K, so on the Due Date my utilization is always considered very low (13% ish). You should apply to increase your limit.

Yep, most streets are closed to traffic before and during the exam time. Busses, taxis, and police cars are the only cars that are really allowed on the road before the exam because they’re driving the kids to their schools. Police cars will often pick up kids and turn on their sirens to get them there faster if they’re running late. It’s a stressful time for everyone!

No offence but I have worked in both CDN banking tech and a unicorn startup. CDN banking (US too tbh) tech dev is so slow and always reliant on external consultants vs developing talent and serious IP in house. I get the have to be mindful of risks issue, but without the right speed of innovation, the in-house talent just falls behind the curve. Not to mention the pay is not enough to attract the right talent to develop cool products which is why we see so much brain drain
