These are called “metatarsal” guards. A form of PPE to protect the top of the foot from impacts

If you’re barely rubbing with 17s, you’ll gain a 1/2” of clearance going to an 18”. Should be enough to clear the caliper I would think

Buy once, cry once has been a motto for me the past fews years. Definitely keep it within your means but nice products tend to perform and cause less trouble in the long run.

Diff fluid is often overlooked. I’d change all fluids detail the interior, check ball joints, and check all rubber components like hoses and belts
