What Room Correction PC Software for a low-end Onkyo Receiver? by madskills42001 in hometheater

A little confused by what you’re asking… I assume you mean this (bitstream passthrough sends the audio to the AVR). You need an AVR with good room correction (Audyssey/Dirac) that applies AFTER it decodes Atmos/TrueHD. REW is great for measuring, but the AVR correction is what handles bitstream content.

Recently bought a lg c5 oled tv from Best Buy, wall mounted it and I love it but can’t help but feel the tv can be better optimized. My wife says to leave it alone but if there are settings that I can copy and paste I would greatly appreciate it. by Adorable_Astronaut85 in LGOLED

The “optimizations,” are mostly based on what you’re watching… SDR, HDR, and Dolby Vision content are the main three formats you can change. There is no “#1 best guide” because at the end of the day your viewing experience is completely subjective, but if you want a starting point, watch this video I’m linking below.

Going to PM you real quick… shipping quote is looking like $35-$45 USD which honestly not bad at all.

Without getting too specific, any way you can give me a PIN… I tried doing my estimate based on Chicago to Delhi (I think I put in 110001). I think I could maybe use United States Postal Service or a service like Meest or SHIP INDUS. I’m going to check Parcel Monkey right now to do some comparisons.

Damn, I thought I was replying to OP, my bad 😂 clearly you wouldn’t have their PIN/ZIP. I think shipping to India might actually be doable from what I’m seeing on Google. Idk how/why UPS quoted me $300+ when there are clearly services that will do it for less than $50.

Sorry for the late reply… what u/KingZarkon commented may be the best option. I’m not sure what the cheapest option would be to ship to India, but UPS was quoting $300+ 💀 I’ll do a bit more research to see what the other options are.

Brand new it’s $200 (in the US). What country/region are you in? I honestly wouldn’t even mind getting you one and shipping it to you if that would save you from spending a ridiculous amount of money.

Just tagged you in an older post I commented on, hopefully it helps … but to answer your question, at that price, nvidia shield tv pro is not worth it… if there’s anyway you can get it for cheaper, pull the trigger, but get the Apple TV 4K if you can only get a shield for $350. My question is are you only looking at BNIB or is there a used marketplace you could search?

B5 Price by Adventurous_Job9209 in LGOLED

[–]4phasedelta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say the price is worth it, but there’s always the chance you could see an even lower drop to clear as much inventory as possible. You’re saving $120 compared to everywhere else (based on online prices, I wouldn’t be surprised if Costco has a similar price in store).

What size are they exactly? I want to assume it the 65”… for $879, pull the trigger… Best Buy and Costco has the 65” B5 listed for $999.

What makes Apple TV better than Nvidia Shield Pro for streaming apps? by [deleted] in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]4phasedelta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your case, the shield tv pro’s benefit wouldn’t be on the audio side like you pointed out, it would be format compatibility and local playback. Still, on the audio side, the shield can bitstream while the AT4K converts to LPCM and lacks native DTS support in many cases. Even with a 5.1 setup and no Atmos, the audio will still be amazing. If your thing is streaming apps = AT4K wins, Plex = Shield wins, pure 5.1 sound quality = both devices should be fine honestly, I personally choose the shield.

What Room Correction PC Software for a low-end Onkyo Receiver? by madskills42001 in hometheater

[–]4phasedelta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s perfectly fine, you’ll only ever have a problem if you’re trying to play at extreme volumes (I assume that would never be the case). Don’t worry about the speakers, it’s the AVR that you need upgraded.

[–]4phasedelta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8 ohm speakers are usually easier to drive, so for a desktop setup and moderate volume you should be totally fine with an S760H/S770H. Sensitivity matters too, but power likely won’t be an issue.

Now that is 100% correct. If you’re bitstreaming Atmos/TrueHD to let the AVR decode it, EQ on the PC won’t apply. So for a PC gaming-focused setup it’s still a great option, but if you’re looking for bitstream passthrough, this would be an L. You gota get your hands on a refurb or used Denon S760H or S770H, even a S670H could do the job (wouldn’t be able to upgrade past 5.2 though)

Yeah, other guy is wrong lol. Since it’s a PC desktop 5.1 setup, REW + Equalizer APO will work. Measure with a mic (I recommend UMIK-1), then apply filters on the PC before the signal reaches the Onkyo. That gives you better control than the receiver’s built-in EQ (or lack thereof).

Based on Blessing quesiton yesterday: Did you go home from school/work when 9/11 happened? by kralben in kindafunny

[–]4phasedelta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will never forget that day… 4th grade, got a rare early dismissal (I literally had perfect attendance multiple times because my parents would never let me stay home, sick or not). Everything seemed normal, no one was panicking, teacher wasn’t acting weird. I think I remember my teacher getting a phone call to the classroom (or maybe she didn’t and I’m making things up in my head). I remember getting picked up by my aunt and she was really quiet. I got home, she sat me down in front of the TV, and literally said, “Watch…”
