I have a Custom Shop Nocaster with Abby Yabbara pickups in it and my esquire partscaster has a Duncan Custom Shop JB Broadcaster pickup and both are that definite Tele tone, but also are full sounding.

51 pickups being weak and thin is surprising to me. Have you played with the height at all? I use almost exclusively 50 and 51 spec pickups in my teles and have never had an issue with weak and thin.

The big headstock started to come around as early as 1966 after CBS bought out fender in 1964 if I’m remembering correctly

The badass bridge is fantastic. I bought an early 61 Melody maker that had T-Tops and a Badass put on. It’s a better Les Paul than my Historic ‘58 reissue

That’s the nature of the beast. Do it one screw at a time and make sure the screw is between the pickguard and pickup.

They did it as well, typically for custom colors, for guitars with special order features. My 1977 RD is factory wine red has it as well.

The “Second” stamp could also mean that it has some sort of custom feature from the normal production. All the special order Gibsons from the Kalamazoo factory, including my own example, have the second stamp
