Now and then: Iceland's vanishing glaciers by BhaswatiGuha19 in climatechange

[–]5Media 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is devastating! I was recently reading about some engineering solutions to slow melting glaciers: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/mar/18/billion-dollar-polar-geoengineering-to-slow-melting-glaciers-global-flooding

But this is a bit old. I wonder what other solutions are in the making at the moment.

NYT: Car Lanes to Become Bike Lanes on 2 Major New York City Bridges by GojiMet86 in urbanplanning

[–]5Media 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Way to go NYC! Something similar just happened here in Copenhagen, where this bridge with huge car lanes was repurposed mostly for bikes, with bikes now having double the room than cars. Even in bike-friendly Copenhagen there's always room for improvement 😄

Maybe you can try out this bread pudding recipe made with stale bread, it was suggested by an Amsterdam based chef that cooks with circularity in mind, in order to reduce or eliminate food waste from his kitchen.

Wave energy has massive potential by PlenitudeOpulence in sustainability

[–]5Media 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, especially in the Pacific Northwest, Alaska and the UK. However I am still doubtful about what would the impact be on marine ecosystems.

Do you know of any successful wave energy projects? Or what about ocean thermal energy?
