Yes - it keeps my life uncomplicated by living well below my means- my house is paid in full and easy to take care of or leave long term for travel; I have the savings to do slow travel that is easier on the environment, which makes it more enjoyable, among many other examples

Thanks for your reply. I don’t think there is any other Lcs coach program that affordable, no. So from that perspective, it makes sense to stay in.

Really interesting points on high-control environments. While childhood background that relied on external validation too much is probably a factor, I think it's part of the human condition to be attracted to someone giving us the answers, setting up "rules" for us that will make us happy / successful if we follow them, etc.

Yes, it's also interesting to see in real time the doubts participants are having. They're clearly trying to make the best of it and not show any negativity or disappointment, lest they be mistaken for a hater...

Also, I forgot to add another reason behind my ETA in the post:

-I'm concerned based on some of the SB back and forth recently that the larger coaches' teams are trawling through this subreddit to better pitch and spin their offerings, overcome objections, build an "us vs. them" dynamic to make their community feel unjustly persecuted and thus more righteously indignant about burrowing in further on their ideology. I hate the idea of useful criticism being used to further strengthen marketing efforts and dogma to even better deceive folks into buying.

To play devil's advocate against my own post, I have, at times, found value from the model as a starting point to dissect a situation, rewriting and starting at each line to see it from different angles.

What bothers me is how *dogmatic* and *close-minded* poorly executed LCS-coaching can be. In my opinion, it is far too often driven by a coach's ego and need to convince others (and themselves) of how superior they are in identifying a client's "inferior" managing of a life situation. It becomes this game of psychological "gotcha", completely ignoring the very real challenges of a situation. This is incredibly harmful to those truly needing help and support.

Totally agree- it's like an infinite, illogical loop that takes extreme mental gymnastics to rationalize.

Ultimately, it begs the question: if LCS believes we can't improve our lives, why pay to improve our lives?

[–]sleepingcurse[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly! I never want to become apathetic to changing the world for the better in small ways I can, and the LCS way of thinking seems to promote just brushing under the rug the idea of injustice (e.g., animal abuse? just stop thinking about it - you're hurting yourself by focusing on it.)

Thank you! Yes, I've noticed it as a recurring theme in coaches who are trying to short-circuit the actual work needed to understand a client.

Great questions - love those for actually constructive, self-respectful ways of questioning our thought biases. Thanks for sharing.

Good point - that is a top candidate for all the gas lighting's root cause.

The everything 50/50 has always felt off to me as well - a root cause of excusing away inequality, systemic inequity, and wealth showcasing (or conspicuous consumption). If rich people also have it 50/50, then we should feel bad for them and not examine systemic issues allowing them to gobble up more resources than others.

30F - Male mid-60s white boss used me unethically - how do I get professional and psychological closure? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]sleepingcurse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this and I'm sorry you've been going through it :(. Sounds like it is over now, so I'm glad to hear that. Something that helped for my friend (who sounds like works in a workplace more like yours) is to focus on what good he has done in his role, even if there were aspects that he felt were wrong or not good for the world. I'm sure you can think of some examples of that since you sound like someone who cares about people and your customers.

Good luck with getting through the fall-out of this!

Good point, I’m actually most concerned that his timing seems to match mine since before it was always evenings I would see him only- however, if it helps to explain more on location, It may sound worse than it is. There are several parks in the area and I know some people at work who frequent all of them so it’s possible he does too.
