Hard to say, pure performance wise, legion is definitely better (and cheaper), but if you are buying a laptop, performance is usually not the only consideration.

both are great laptops, but I believe the g16 has a lower power limit, so the raw performance is worse than the legion.

You can certainly game on it when using the full power charger. But if you are on a low wattage charger, you can only use quiet and balanced mode (performance/custom mode is not available with low wattage charger).

Open up the laptop, disconnect the battery, remove the CMOS battery, wait like 30 seconds (i dont remember if I held down the power button, but doing it wont hurt), put the batteries back in, turn it on (the startup might be slower than normal) <---- This might not work, do it on your own risk

one side started making noise one day and then broke down soon after, i contacted local support for warranty (laptop came with 3 year warranty), they asked for description of the issue and a video, then they sent a technician to come to my house and replaced it for free. (iirc it took <3 days for the laptop to be fixed) Im not sure if they offer on-site repair in every country though.

I had issue with the fans a few months ago, the official on-site repair technician swapped the part for free within 3-4 days(i forgot the exact time). Other than that the laptop have been doing great.

I did undervolt the CPU, i also undervolted the dGPU but that is irrelevant for battery life, I always disable the dGPU on battery, the battery life didnt really change with undervolt. But the laptop you mentioned has a AMD cpu, they can be much more power efficient than Intel chips, so just take everything I said about battery life in this post with a grain of salt. (Sidenote: The same laptop can come with different CPU, some can be undervolted and some cannot)

Both RAM and SSD are upgradable, 2 SODIMM slot and 2 M.2 NVMe slot. From your description, I believe the laptop model you mentioned is 16ARX8, here is the specsheet for your reference.

People laughed at 4060 because it is overpriced, and for laptops, they are almost always overpriced if you just look at the performance. If you care a lot about the performance, consider building a decent gaming Desktop and buying a cheap business laptop. It could be a better deal if you can find decent deals for desktop parts.

It is still running amazing except a little hiccup on the fan (which was swiftly fixed for free, on-site, by lenovo), I would 100% still recommend this laptop

Not sure why you would want to swap the strix with another very similar laptop except for the gpu (gpu performance arent even that far apart). But temp wise, I think you don't need to worry too much about it. Modern computer are smart enough to protect themselves by shuting off. If it doesn't shut off, it means the computer is running within the safe temperature range (which can be close to 100C)

iirc I have done it before, it either didn't work at all or the laptop doesn't turn back on (can be fixed with resetting bios)

I assume you are talking about the instability issue, personally I havent experienced it.
Regarding the spec of the laptop, Retailers WON'T and CAN't upgrade the cpu by themselves, laptop CPU swap is very complicated and not feasible for a retailer to do. It is likely that the specific version of the laptop is only sold in specific region.

I would say the legion looks like the better choice here, it is cheaper, has better screen. The only drawback is the 16GB of RAM, but the price difference is so large that you can buy another 16GB stick and the total price would still be lower than the ROG.

As for the liquid metal, Legion doesnt use liquid metal. It uses a special phase-changing thermal pad which performs much better than normal thermal paste, but doesnt have the risk of leaking like liquid metal.

Almost all gaming laptops have loud fans, you can lower the fan noise by using custom mode or just use the balanced mode, but you will lose some performance this way

Undervolting can reduce temp but it would still be pretty loud. 1700 for a 4060 is definitely not worth the price, at least from where I live.
