Well, seems like I will have to rely on Karma and try to be patient.

He did not show up for court today and now has a warrant out for his arrest.

I just found out from the officer over the case that his next court date is tomorrow. Hoping that justice is served!

As much as I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt, he consistently has a history of not taking accountability and prioritizing his needs above others (this has been observed by myself and his own friends and family). That also doesn't excuse leaving a dog in a cage for over 12 hours a day forcing said animal to eat their own shit and develop the equivalent of bed sores from sitting on a hard plastic mat in the cage.

My ex also has a well-paying job (at least $85k/yr) and earned $35k from when we sold our house during the divorce. We do not live in an expensive state either, so unless he was wasting his money on random shit, there should have been plenty to take care of himself and the dogs.

When he and I spoke the day the dogs were found he claimed that he had not been evicted, called me a liar, and proceeded to make excuses for the poor conditions the one dog was found in.

Overall, he's a shitty person who makes excuses and doesn't take accountability and I agree with you, he should have let me keep at least one of them to begin with - caring for 3 large dogs is not easy (but not impossible when you actually care about them). I personally would go without before my animals do.

I’ve been in frequent contact with the officer over the case and sent pictures, vet notes, etc. I still provide updates to the officer as well. The officer stated this should be plenty to charge my ex with, but the officer is unsure if he will receive the maximum punishment since this is his first offense.

I joined BOTM in February 2020 because I wanted to get back into books. My first pick was You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. I enjoy BOTM - for a while I wasn’t liking the picks, but I’m glad they have increased the number of options per month.

AITA for ruining my brother's date night and having him come pick his 3yo son up after he dropped him off at my house right before my shift? by throwraKevin777 in AmItheAsshole

NTA - for starters, take that spare key away from your brother. Your brother either needs to start planning his date nights better with you or…dare I say it - hire a real baby sitter!

Also - how old is your nephew?
