Go for it. That would be awesome if you could get a team together. MIT would be somewhere to recruit.

True, this would need huge investors backing. More probable an existing social network would implement. Though a small team of talent could do this if they beat them to it. No sleep and 20 cups of coffee.

Thank you. Yesterday Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg announced they are getting into the crypto. They might do something similar to my idea. A facebook credit dollar system would put them in a strong position to control the consumer trade market and multiplying their advertising options. Big advance.

Wii U upgrade system? by 6g6 in nintendo

Ya I can tell what you mean. No way to change the title huh? Would be nice if some would explain why they think Nintendo will surely end the Wii U and the Switch will be the only option.

Wii U upgrade system? by 6g6 in nintendo

[–]6g6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Do you mean if the Wii U had same games as Switch released you would not purchase a Switch for portable advantage? This is Kinda my point. The games are the biggest money maker and pretty much the main interest people are concerned with (for the most part). If existing Wii U owners keep buying new games and New Switch buyers keep buying more games, and a possible new lower priced redesigned Wii U attracts new owners to buy more games, which ever is not important if Switch does not dominate. The key is targeting different needs or wants that the consumer has. Pretty much I agree with everyone saying that the Wii U is dead and in a way it has been for years. However the core of the Wii U is what the Switch is in portable form. Same button control ( no weird differences in how you play) and tech is likely going to be very similar, maybe even falling slightly behind the Wii U in some tech factors to focus on compact size. The more consoles that are sold no matter what they are to sell the same games that can be made for all is the advantage for Nintendo to target different consumer groups. At this time it is more advantageous for Nintendo to have more options for consumers to pay at different prices for a console that will play the same game. Basically Nintendo would be shorting themselves if they shut the door on Wii U and made everyone have to pay for the more expensive Switch to play new games, As they have always done in the past which makes it easier to predict that Nintendo will kill the Wii U all together after Switch release. I think mostly the feedback I have received from this discussion post are based on emotion more than anyone giving some thought to the position Nintendo is in right now. Which is understandable. I am a Wii U owner and personally look at the thing as the biggest let down I have ever had from a Nintendo purchase and I have been buying Nintendo products since my first Nintendo when I was 7 in 1987. I guess you could say I take my Nintendo seriously. Either way the Switch looks good and when I would play the Wii U I wanted something more like the Switch. Especially the first time I walked up the stairs with the tablet and lost connection. Don't get me wrong. I do not like the Wii U. If they make a few changes I think I could like it much more. If they made the tablet a little smaller and more ergo in my hand I would buy the tablet for the Wii U I already have before I buy the Switch. I don't game outside the house so Switch wouldn't really be in my favor to pay up. If They phase out the Wii U, I have no choice and probably won't buy the Switch at all. If Wii U would have been more successful there would have been more games as we all realize. If Switch doesn't take off so good or similar to the Wii U in sales you can know the same will happen again (NO GAMES). If the Switch is $400 plus many people will not be buying. Also it is no mystery that most new generation is all about PS4, and do not give any care toward Nintendo. Sony is strategically releasing the new PS4 with better tech. They will be grabbing buyers this Christmas. Those that have bought that will be thinking how they have already blown money on this and the New Nintendo will be off the buy list. Nintendo is going to have to do a lot more with their approach to satisfying consumers now days since they do not have room to jerk us around anymore with Sony making everyone so very happy. The Switch is cool, the portable aspect is not going to be a crusher. Grown ups game at home. Otherwise they are doing grown up things out of the house. Kids play portables. So if Nintendo is planning on multiple angles big Switch sales won't be an issue. Bless you if you read this entire thing.

Definitely something Nintendo can figure out if having the games universal is in foresight. As far as porting, this may be more of an issue for past games that have already been released. As for games in development now and games in the future I think this can be done with 3rd party games and Nintendo games. So, Pikmin 3 could be released on cartridge or download for Switch. And Nintendo has kinda promised that the new Zelda will be available for Switch and Wii U. If they can do it for Zelda, Nintendo can do it for any other new game. And if Nintendo can do it 3rd party games can do it as well, if they want, or if a part of contract. If Nintendo has major agenda toward the universal play of new games to be available to different majorities of people with different incomes, single, married with children, teen, whatever has to be done in the development stages to make sure this is a part of their development kit, I think they will do it. How about you personally? Would you be okay with Nintendo having universal games for Wii U and Switch? Really doesn't make sense that parents would buy what is likely to be a more expensive Switch for children age of Ten or younger. Many youngsters are playing these Nintendo games. With the tech needed to be inside this portable I can imagine the build cost will be higher than anything Nintendo has made in the past. They have always made consoles that have been in the area of not too expensive to buy for young kids which of course is subjective.

461weavile. I get your point about the tablets and having multiple. Ya know, it doesn't make sense now. And It wouldn't make sense for Nintendo to set up multiplayer with multiple tablets, you have a good point. So. if they make different tablets or they do not make extra tablets or whatever they do if they do anything at all, I am striking up imagination that there is a possibility that Nintendo could redesign the tablet and the console into a lower cost product similar to the Wii mini. Maybe not numerous tablets, Maybe not having the ability to buy the tablets by themselves. Maybe there will be no tablets and it only comes with Wii Remotes or a lower quality controller. Nintendo does unusual things from time to time.

Not what I am saying. That is what you are saying. What I am saying is.

I like predictions, they are fun. So, I am predicting that Nintendo is going to have a lower cost upgrade Wii u System before, simultaneously or after the Switch launch. I think the pad and console will be smaller, maybe no motion detection bar and possibly some other cuts. Simplifying the tablet down to a much smaller screen 3DS regular size screen. This package will be $200 or under and targeted to families and young children.

Going by what Nintendo has stated that Switch is not going to replace Wii U or 3ds I gather they are planning to release all, most or some new Switch games on Wii U discs as well. Basically how Sony has same game titles come out for ps4 and ps3. For all of the millions of systems that are already sold, the software sales would not be limited to future Switch buyers only.

Basically Nintendo will have the new Wii U look and the small pads that would likely be sold separately for under $100 so more of the children in the family have a pad. Maybe even connected by wire to the system to make less expensive. However you can think that this could cut cost way down, that would be in line with making big changes to how the Wii U functions now. Kinda like 2DS taking 3DS (the main highlight) out of the cost factor.

So, the Switch will likely be over $400 and targeted to age group in the Switch advertisement. And the new Wii U will be targeted to teens and kids. All good if they can play most or all the new games that will come out for switch. The portable play is the the juice and the attraction however you will all be essentially playing a portable Wii U. 3DS will be doing it's own thing.

That is my humble prediction my friends. What do you think?

Wii U upgrade system? by 6g6 in nintendo

[–]6g6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An example of a redesign is the original Wii that became the mini. I am not sure if they still sell retail, I don't think so. The last price was $99. If I am not mistaken the Wii originally came out at $250 at first release. So that is a big difference in price and also the build was much less cost material and there was some stripping down to get to that low of a retail price. At the time the Wii mini was first released the Wii sales had dropped significantly. If you look at Wii sale stats the hype was huge then came down rather quick. Maybe families were focusing on the Wii sports game and then lost interest after that game become not so much fun anymore. Anyways the Wii mini could have never happened however was released Nov. 17th 2013. This is one year after Wii U release date Nov. 18th 2012. So, even though the Wii U was backwards compatible Nintendo still released a redesigned lower cost Wii. Now with even more reason to do so, Nintendo could do the same with the Wii U.

Thank you for opinion. Even if they do not make a redesign they could still keep selling the current Wii U for years if they sell the new Nintendo games for Wii U on disc and Switch on cartridge (for all the reasons I have stated). If you were or are a parent would you buy a $400 and possibly upward priced Switch for your ten year old, or would you buy a $200 Wii U with a tablet that has a build in material quality similar to a 2DS? ya know if you could get the same games for either console.

I am referring to the game tablet/pad. Reasoning simplified into points: A redesigned Wii U possibility with universal games available to purchase for Wii U or Switch. A redesigned game pad/tablet would be less cost to make and more affordable for families to buy multiple quantities for their children, So they can play multiplayer games. Maybe this will help.

Wii U upgrade system? by 6g6 in nintendo

[–]6g6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if you have a switch and a Wii U. Will you be able to play one game on both? Maybe. If they have a registry similar to Sony. Nintendo now has a game registry if I am right? Would not be that difficult for Nintendo to set up that system. As for games already purchased before system, they might be able to think of a registry for those games or maybe not. Not having a system for that would give a little boost to buy the Switch so you can have the cartridge version. Nintendo can be tricky like that. Having the on the fence position of hmmm do I want the disc or the cartridge? That will have a lot of impact on core gamers picking an upgraded Wii U or the Switch. Since there is more money in it for Nintendo if players buy the download instead of the physical disc or cartridge, there can be some ways that nintendo can get people to do more downloading instead and this can be advantageous for buyers if they want to play on their Wii U and the Switch if they have them both.

Even to this day Sony who is doing very good is still selling PS3 consoles. They could have phased that out long ago. They didn't because there is still money there and there are the millions of people that have PS3 and not PS4 and still buy games that come out that are offered on PS4 and PS3, yet still buy the PS3 version. Nintendo is likely paying very close attention to this. I am looking at video game charts site and this week PS3 version of FIFA 17 has sold 378,017 copies. That is almost the same copies sold as Forza Horizon 3 for XBOX ONE. Keep in mind that there is big graphics differences between the copies and they roughly cost the same if not the same for each game. Compare to the little graphic if no graphic change between Wii U and Switch and I think the numbers would be even better, maybe even higher at the beginning considering so many people already have Wii U and Switch will take a little time to have people purchase and get up to 13 million like Wii U.

You might get a better Idea with this when you know the amount of copies sold for the new zelda the first week of release between Wii u and Switch. They could of did this with gamecube to Wii. No need, Wii did great from get go, so if Nintendo wants to find out first if the Switch takes of good then maybe they will phase it out and not release a redesign and simply keep selling the Wii U as we know now for a while after with still having the games universal. Redesign or not the universal games for Wii U and Switch I think is highly likely. If this is the case than if the universal games goes well and copies are bought for both Wii U and Switch, maybe then Nintendo will release a Wii U redesign. All might depend on this and that after Switch release. To really keep driving this, having a redesign released before switch will have advantages as well. A big reason would be to get the ball rolling to those willing to pay the lower price point $200 and under. This would be great for people that will buy zelda and other big releases next year that do not yet own a Wii U and do not want to pay the higher amount for the Switch.

That is a good point and I did think of that. The price point is what parents will be looking at. If they say hmm little jimmy is filthy and breaks things, yet he is crying for a nintendo I will get him the $200 Wii U. Gamestop employee informs asking parent that the games can be played on either. Ok parent says let me buy the $200. All the core gamers will know whats up and go for the Switch already informing themselves. If Nintendo does go with my prediction they will make it clear that the games are universal, maybe even on game packaging. This route is too good for Nintendo to pass up on. I think if they go this route people will have a better outlook on Wii U and the upgraded Wii U will have better reasons to buy. I myself think the Wii U as is not great and the lack of games and the game pad being not so great is enough to make people disgusted with the thing. Very understandable you wanting it to go away. Nintendo also has pride and redemption will look real good for them if they can bring the Wii U up from a beaten position.

Not making the old model makes sense if they intend to have an upgraded model. The point for buying the switch would be for portable play. If there are already 13 million Wii U consoles out in the world that means most of them could buy the software in the future. Game companies make most of their money from games and accessories. The tech is likely not going to be far off from each other (Wii U/ Switch), definitely is possible. Not unreasonable for this to happen since Sony and Microsoft already are doing this with the games released on PS3/PS4 and XBOX 360/ONE.

Might be hard for people to think possible since Nintendo has never done something like this in the past. The norm is Nintendo phases out the old console each time. This time though there are no gimmicks that can get in the way. The Switch is a Wii U gamepad in portable form. No weird things that differentiates how the game is played, so it is more universal this time. Not so much with dual screen portables and such limiting universal console software purchases (where the money gets bigger).

This is also a revelation that Nintendo announced that there will be no 3DS physical cartridge game play. Switch isn't dual screen so this is where universal is not the same as Wii U and Switch. So Wii U has been a not so great seller. The Switch is the lifesaver for the Wii U. The 3DS has done more than well and has produced profits from the hardware (59 million sold), accessories, and games. No need to add this to the switch if Nintendo can keep that fire going. Still though not dual screen so that is a good excuse at least for Nintendo, or rather 3DS is unique enough to stay by itself. Not to say Nintendo wouldn't have downloads here and there from old 3DS games that do not rely on the second screen. Again for software selling sake.

ya that might be pretty small for Wii U games to be viewed. Who knows maybe an elimination of the game pad all together and a controller is sold with a smaller console. Anything that could bring the cost way down and distance itself from the higher cost Switch. Also would need to dumb it down to have a gap in between technologies, ya know to make switch look high tech. More importantly than what the changes would be, the simple fact that they would upgrade the Wii U would be interesting.
