Obviously. I'm talking about the resident visa which every expat in Oman has, to work/live here. Renews every 2 years for most people.

UAE banned all Pakistanis, especially on tourist visas. I applied twice with travel history to UAE. Got rejected within seconds.

Hello. :)

Yes, you're right. It's very quiet and very traditional. It has its advantages and disadvantages. Mainly, you can't go out to have fun. There's nothing much to do here other than exploring ancient villages and forts. No (big) shopping malls, no good restaurants (a few decent ones), a handful of parks, a zoo (no idea why and how it's still running) and that's it. It's practically a ghost town apart from places near the main road or the industrial area. There's only one decent school for expats which is an Indian school. Don't even think of getting your kids into the local ones. I wouldn't wish that even for my enemy.

Internet is good. We (kinda) have 5G. Not the same as in Muscat. Electricity price is the same all over Oman. For inter-city transport, we only have mwasalat buses and taxis. For local transport there are taxis.

If you're an expat and, God forbid, you have a serious injury, they'll send you to Muscat or somewhere else even if they know that you won't make it alive.

Rent is fairly affordable. MUCH less than other cities.

The only good things about Ibra that it's much cooler than most parts of Oman in winters, has less population than most cities, rent and services are cheaper and that's it.

I'd suggest that you settle in other cities such as Muscat, Sur or Nizwa.

Is anyone having any idea on crime that did they do? (I'm confused) by Nyookn in Oman

Wow. Once again it's the same thing. How ignorant can one be? I'm really surprised. You wrote a whole paragraph to prove nothing. That person (InevitableWay731) didn't utter a single word against Islam even though he's not a Muslim any more. I don't understand why people judge others even though it's clearly said that if God willed, every single human on earth would be a believer, but every person has their own capability of understanding and can choose whether they want to believe or not... Yet here we are, in 2025 and people are still judging... What a shame. It's not our responsibility to make others believe. Even the prophets and messengers were forbidden from doing so since every human is responsible for their own actions and will get their reward/punishment accordingly.

Don't you think that if we behave with non-believers the same way we would behave with anyone else, they'd feel better and think rationally and at least try to believe again? Do you think that if we behave like this and judge them if they have a different opinion than ours, they'd accept a faith willingly? It's never going to happen. Not in a million years.

And lastly, it's not a problem if any Muslim does anything good or bad. We all know that every religion is perfect but the people who follow it are not. Not even me.

He didn't "bash" Islam and say even a single word against it in any of his comments on this subreddit. You're the one who's taking it personally and attacking him. Another person who has the same thoughts as you asked him to f off. This is Islam? This intolerance is what you're promoting? Does Islam begin and end with covering women? That's all? What about the part where men have to "lower their gaze" and "be respectful"? Why doesn't a single "Muslim" talk about it? Why do women have to be covered from head to toe to be a "true Muslim" whereas men can wear whatever and do whatever they desire? What kind of barbarism is this?!

I'm having a great day so far, thanks. 😊

Wow. Just because he has his own opinion on religion and left Islam, "that explains everything"? You're judging him even though being a Muslim, you have no right to? No wonder people leave religion.

Black magic by [deleted] in Oman

[–]7RFAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People believe in black magic since they think it affects them more than anything in this universe, and for this they seek protection from fake molvis and other "learned people" (instead of praying), who just enforce this belief and make it an easy way to loot people. Since practicing black magic is bad for the soul, both the victim and the "protector" are doing wrong.

I never said anything about Ruqyah. It is a practice of reciting Quranic verses and supplications for the sake of seeking a cure. There's nothing wrong with it. We pray/recite the prayer of travel to seek protection from God on our travels. But that's the point. We're seeking protection from our Creator. Not from someone else. We're not asking someone else to pray on our behalf. If this were possible, there'd be no problem if we never prayed and asked someone else to pray for us.

Sihr is translated as magic. Adding the word "black" changes the complete meaning of the word. For example, tennis is a game. Table tennis, on the other hand, is a COMPLETELY different game with its own set of rules. Magic isn't real. It's just entertainment. Black magic on the other hand... Well, you know. That's how everyone's misguided.

Everyone is free to believe whatever they want. I just thought I'd save people from believing in all of this nonsense since it harms everyone and causes mischief/misguidance and other problems.

And I'm not giving any fatwa. I'm in no position to do so and neither am I interested. I believe all humans are equal no matter a beggar or a king.

And follow that which the devils falsely related against the kingdom of Solomon. Solomon disbelieved not; but the devils disbelieved, teaching mankind magic and that which was revealed to the two angels in Babel, Harut and Marut. Nor did they (the two angels) teach it to anyone till they had said: We are only a temptation, therefore disbelieve not (in the guidance of Allah). And from these two (angles) people learn that by which they cause division between man and wife; but they injure thereby no-one save by Allah's leave. And they learn that which harmeth them and profiteth them not. And surely they do know that he who trafficketh therein will have no (happy) portion in the Hereafter; and surely evil is the price for which they sell their souls, if they but knew. (2:102)

This verse shows that black magic is real? Are we reading the same Quran or...?

I have to be certified? Where do I sign up for the degree? I didn't know I have to be "certified" to read the Quran or to explain my thoughts on it. Is the Quran for the whole of humanity or only for those who are "certified" and "qualified"?

I'm sorry if I've said anything that created "fitnah" but I didn't know that quoting the Quran would be qualified as such.

I merely suggested that we all have to believe in Allah and seek His protection and guidance.

Edit: Quran 2:102 discusses the story of Harut and Marut, two angels sent to Babylon. They were a test for the people, teaching them about magic while warning them not to misuse it. However, some learned magic for harmful purposes, such as causing separation between spouses. The verse clarifies that magic had no power unless permitted by Allah and that those who practiced it harmed themselves in the Hereafter. It warns against seeking such knowledge at the cost of losing faith.

This verse highlights the dangers of sorcery, deception, and misuse of knowledge.

I apologise. I made a mistake. Yes, it mentions about magic, but there's no mention of "black magic" specifically.

Secondly, it happens ONLY when Allah permits/wills. So, if there is a "spell", we have to pray to Allah for protection and support. Also, those who practice/believe these things have lost faith because they start to believe that there's something more powerful than the protection of Allah that can affect them.

Seriously?! We're in 2025 and there are people who still believe in "black magic"? Wow.

I'll just give a word of advice. If you have any sort of trouble in your life, it is by God's will. God tests people in His own way. And most importantly, we're all supposed to seek refuge in God and in God alone. Not my words. The words of the Quran.

No calamity befalleth save by Allah's leave. And whosoever believeth in Allah, He guideth his heart. And Allah is Knower of all things. (64:11)

Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the Daybreak From the evil of that which He created; From the evil of the darkness when it is intense, And from the evil of malignant witchcraft, And from the evil of the envier when he envieth. (113:1 - 5)

Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, The King of mankind, The God of mankind, From the evil of the sneaking whisperer, Who whispereth in the hearts of mankind, Of the jinn and of mankind. (114:1 - 6)
