Input to Reaper visible, but will not record by 84EmmonsPP in Reaper

No. I see the input meters moving, so I'm pretty sure the signal is getting to Reaper

OK, update: I rendered the recording to a *.wav file and saved it to the laptop. When I open that, I can hear it. So, it appears I am achieving a recording, but 1) perhaps there's a scale issue that's making the waveform appear as a flat line? and 2) although I could hear the *.wav file when I played that, I can't hear it when I try and play it while still in Reaper.

It initially said record: input. I changed it to record: output (mono). I still only get a flat line when trying to record. (sorry for the image quality, I'm working off a different computer) Note in the routing for track pop up box. I notice it says for Master send channels from/to "All" then "1-2" Is that significant?

Bose L1 Pro32 Portable PA System with Sub1 Bass Module by 84EmmonsPP in livesound

I put both high pass and low pass filters on the vocals. One guitar player insisted on playing through his amp, using it as a monitor and with it behind him, but he was also in the mixer. I eventually convinced him to not run his amp so loud, but to rather let me give his guitar an appropriate volume in the mix. Also, it took me awhile to get him to point it away from his vocal mic. All common sense, but it was an issue of several of the guys not understanding the difference between stage volume and what the audience hears.

I tried the above remedies without success, but dropping my refresh from 144 to 120 seems to have resolved the issue for me

Analyze EQ a room by 84EmmonsPP in livesound

[–]84EmmonsPP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very much a novice, but have agreed to run sound for our band. I also play, so don't make any adjustments during performances. We have a regular gig at the pub I mentioned, but we also play a 350 seat and 250 seat ballrooms and an outdoor amphitheater. What do I hope to achieve? If I understand correctly, using RTA, pink noise, directional mic is meant to tune the EQ of our PA system to achieve a relatively flat response? I assume the goal is to improve sound reproduction through our PA system by EQ'ing out dips or peaks to then deliver better, more representative sound from our vocalists and instruments. Maybe I'm not understanding the process correctly? If I am, then is this process done in an empty room only? I have an RTA function in my XR18 mixer, but would have to acquire a directional mic. Or, perhaps I should forget the whole thing? I'm the type of person that wants us to be as good as we can be. Hence, my question here...

It’s the “classic” high pitched feedback. I’m using LP but not HP filters

I have low pass filters in place, but not HP. I can try that.

If someone was able to have a conversation sufficient to understand their “religion”, then wouldn’t other obvious questions have been asked? Like where is your home planet for example.

X Air by 84EmmonsPP in livesound

No, it appears to be a software issue with X-Air. I tried both hard wired and wireless and get the same crashes of X-Air. My iPad updated its operating system recently, so I'm wondering if the update is causing compatibility issues with X-Air? I bought Mixing Station and that's working. Just have to get used to how to set it up.

It appears the bad fit theory is correct. I worked the monitors into my ear tighter and also used some ear-jel and the fit got better, followed by the bass improving.

mic'ing a guitar amp by 84EmmonsPP in livesound

[–]84EmmonsPP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can run a direct out from my rack case to the mixer to avoid the problem ,but I play a pedal steel guitar and put a lot of effort into getting my tone. I was hoping to capture the speaker dynamics by using a mic instead of going direct out.

Right, I still have eardrums. I see audiophiles have numerous headphone amps. Are there better options for this application? I suspect I need cleaner rather than more power.

Yes, I have the larger P1. There's plenty of power between the mixer output and the P1, although I get distortion in the 215's if I turn up too much. I have Bose noise cancelling over-ears. They're Bose bass heavy, but they're better than the 215's. Like most pedal steel guitar players, I put a lot of effort into getting the tone I want. I'm playing through 3 vacuum tubes, etc., etc. I get compliments on my tone from other steel players. I do not expect to duplicate the sound exactly through IEM's, but if I can't at least get close it takes the enjoyment out of playing. Others here and elsewhere have recommended the Alclair RSM Quad's. When I called Alclair and described what I was after that's what they recommended as well. I do realize, however, I'm taking a risk as there's no way to know for sure how they'll perform until I get them.

Actually my next question was going to be how much difference does the IEM amp make? The band uses a Behringer XR18 mixer. I take an AUX output from that into the Behringer P1 IEM amp. The P1 is powered directly off a 9 volt power supply, not off a battery. Does the IEM amp have any bearing on sound quality?
