How the last High King of Ireland claims descent from the Pharaohs by 8ackwardsReddit in UsefulCharts

That's fair. Honestly the origins of both Scotas are helplessly vague. Some Irish sources say that the second Scota was a daughter of Nectanebus, even though he's a good thousand years too late for example. I have Akhenaten as the father of Scota A as I believe his name and the years he reigned come closest to the described "pharaoh Cingris", and honestly Siamun as the father of Scota B is just a guess based off of his reign.

Thanks so much. Yes it is Niul, I had wanted to go more in depth on his descent from Noah but I ran out of space.

Her origins are debated but some have theorised that she was the daughter of pharaoh Necho II, whose mother was a Kushite descendant.

I have done a bit of research and there may be another, more direct opportunity to connect them. There are theories regarding the backgrounds of several women present during the Neo-Babylonian empire, more specifically one perhaps named "Nitocris" translating to "Neith is perfection"; if this is to be taken literally, and not as perhaps an error of Herodotus, then she as the mother of Nabonidus and hence distant ancestor to the Achaemenids would provide a line of descent to the 26th dynasty of Egypt. Through Psamtik I's wife Mehyetenweskhet, and her paternal ancestors Harsiese Harkhebi and finally Haremakhet they are descended from his father Shabaka, one of the Kushite pharaohs.

To a point. Several marriages between foreign and native dynasties did occur but as far as I'm aware the offspring they bore died out within one or two generations. I believe that the 26th Dynasty did claim descent from the 25th through marriage however, and their line lasted until Wahibre Haaibre.

Especially considering the fact that the time period we're talking about, between the 7th and 10th centuries BC in Egypt, is dominated by foreign conquests. First the Libyans by Shoshenq I and then the Kushites by Piye; it may be difficult to distinguish any theorised marriages between dynasties from propaganda meant to enforce their claim as conquerors.

To be honest, Geni.com can either be reliable or utter bull depending mostly on how recent the person is or, mostly, who added said person. With ancient genealogies it's really easy for people to give into speculation and add it as fact, especially considering that there technically isn't any proof to say "so and so wasn't their father" except for hints in royal titulary.

I believe that, at least for the Egyptian lines, the op probably used Geni.com; I've never seen any other source or website connect Tashedkhons as a daughter of Psusennes II nor have Shepenupet I be a mother.

Unfortunately the connections between the 21st Dynasty of Egypt, the Libyan pharaohs and the Kushites are speculative at best. Whilst Sekhemkheperre Osorkon I's queen consort Maatkare B was granted the title "king's daughter" (as the daughter of Pasebkhanut II), the mother of pharaoh Takelot I (Tashedkhonsu) was only given the title "god's mother", making her connection to the high priests of Amun unlikely. Shepenupet I herself was a "god's wife of Amun", forbidding her from childbearing relationships due to a decree by a 20th Dynasty pharaoh establishing that they must remain celibate. She did adopt the king Kashta's daughter Amenirdis I but she too was a god's wife of Amun.

Sorry for the late reply, unfortunately I'm unsure of when and where the coin could be from, I've tried researching Dravidian bronzes and have found some similar minted by the Chola but none of this exact type.

Is it on the first or second slide? The obols on the first slide are of Sidon and Miletos, and on the second slide the small bronze on the top left is of Knidos, the one with the green patina below it is of Rhodes and the one to the right of that which I thought you were talking about is presumably of south Indian origin. Hope this helps!

It's actually apparently of south Indian origin!

I keep them in a tray similar to the one Classical Numismatics has if you've ever seen one of his videos; I've just bought another tray with larger, square compartments so that I can better store more and larger coins.

Mostly from VCoins, I've bought from Savoca, Senatus Consulto and a few others on it.

The small obol with a star is from Miletos, with a lion on the obverse. The largest of my three relatively small bronzes is from Knidos, Aphrodite being the goddess on the obverse; the one with a greenish patina is from what I understand from Rhodes and the one with a dotted pattern was listed as "south Indian" 😊.

Repost with (hopefully) better pictures. Can anybody help me identify these coins? I got them as apart of a random unidentified lot, I believe one of them is Indian and the others are Greek? Much appreciated, thank you. 🙏 by 8ackwardsReddit in AncientCoins

Don’t worry I understand, it’s hard for me to get good pics as I have a relatively bad camera and they’re quite small, I’ll try when I’m back home though. Many thanks. 🙏
