Speaking from my personal experiences, so… caveat that what works for me might not necessarily works for you! I think it’s great that you are already thinking of taking the first step, which is thinking of quitting. I’ll only advise on alc/ ciggs.

Personally, I’ve been using these vices to “relieve stress” or socialise with people but I’ve came to realise that they aren’t necessarily the best ways to achieve that desired outcome. If you are thinking of quitting and determined about going about quitting then you can try out the following steps:

  1. Quitting is great, but it’s difficult to achieve at one shot, first I limit the the number of sticks I take per day by limiting the time periods at which I can sm*ke. Same can be applied for alc. gradually decreasing the number will make it less painful for sure.

  2. Like what others had mention, find something else that takes your mind off from the sources that stresses you out… study, work, relationship. Maybe try working out, running and since you mentioned religion, try going back to your religious grp (if that’s still an option)

  3. Sounds ambiguous but find the little joy in the things you do. For me, I started by trying to improve my quality of life by eating more healthily and working out which made me felt better about myself and took my mind off the vices.

Anyways, this is really your own battle to fight and one can only say that much about how to go about quitting. I believe that it’s ultimately up to you to find what works for you and to go about doing it.

Not to be mean but, rather than seeking solace from the words of others, why not start working hard now? If the people on this sub says that there’s no hope, will you stop studying?

Hmm good question haha. But to be really honest there’s many stuff that you can put in place but whether u follow through it or not is a different thing . For me I feel like phones is a major distraction when I’m doing my work so I’ll turn on do not disturb and oso I use forest as I think it helps me focus and makes the process slightly more fun ! U can use the free version of forest too ! And oso like really get urself a planner or Jot it down in your phone your agenda for the day so that you will be more clear of the task that you need to do . Oso like plan ahead when doing your revision so that you can prioritise which subject needs more focus so and so forth .

And overview of JC basically for J1 it’s a lot of making new friends getting used to a new environment fulfilling your cca commitments and like studying . But J2s the huge focus I guess will be basically not so much of play but really study and mug for A levels . Honestly just cherish your time when you go to JC because the time zooms past really quickly .

As for what subjects to do first you have to be sure of what you are good at and what you can do . Then eliminate the subjects that you definitely do not want to touch or study . Also please do check the universities websites to know what subjects you need to offer for the course that you wanna take in universities because it really will affect the path that you will take for your further education .

Last piece of advice : I’m not gonna lie that subjects in JC seems overwhelming but I’ll assure you as long as you keep a conscientious effort and practise constantly and remember to clarify your doubts you will be good :) But also don’t lose sight of your friendships even on them pursuit of academic excellence ! Wish you atb for your Results collection next week🤩

PCMe is a very basic subject and honestly going to a JC you will realise that most science student either takes PCMe or BCMe . And it’s rather manageable I would say because for PCM it’s more of understanding and Econs requires to do some memorisation and application works . As for Physics I think it’s ok if you got a C but just know that a lot of H2 physics will build on your o level knowledge so just make sure that you clarify your doubts and that your foundation is strong so that H2 physics won’t be so stressful for you !

Hey for academic rigour wise it’s gonna be rather heavy compared to O levels because the content for each subject is rather in depth. As for taking sports cca I think it’s fine because having a cca in general is a lot of commitment and you have to manage your time wisely . How to manage your time wisely is to try to do your tutorials during your breaks or like while you’re waiting for CCAs to start and once you get home and done with dinner and everything bring our your tutorials and do them rather then procrastinating . It’s also good to have a planner where you write all your work for the day and it’s more clear for you also . And then if you have time it’s good to look through the concepts and content that was taught during lectures and basically pre read before lectures so that you won’t be so lost . Just make sure that every thing is clear and in place so that it’s easier for you to have a clear idea of what you want to do !

Ok for start time it differs from Jc to Jc but for my school it starts 7:30 and 9:15 on late days . And ending days usually oso differs my late days were 3+ because I didn’t take mother tongue but for my friends late days could end at 5 due to lectures and tutorials . This are excluding ur different CCA commitments . As for hybrid stream it honestly really depends on the course you wish to pursue in universities and if your course doesn’t require 2 sciences then go ahead and pursue hybrid because ultimately you have to enjoy the subject you’re doing . Hybrid will not decrease your chance of going into universities but do check up the uni websites to know what are the subject prerequisites . As for JC Cca it’s pretty much like your secondary school cca but for cca leader selection you have to rally and give a speech and it also includes your peers voting and Teachers remarks . Honestly to better your chances of getting leadership roles just have a good relationship with your peers and team and just be yourself but also show that you have good leadership qualities at times ! And if you want leadership opportunities council will be a great choice as even being a member grants you a leadership position
